Will the 2nd American Revolution Destroy Liberalism?

The 2nd American Revolution happened today/last night and yet there was no shots fired. It was the political shot "heard round the world". Today, America rejected socialism. Today, we rejected big government controlling our daily lives and stealing from our wallets. Today, an important election to the future direction of our country  happened that has the Left in a tizzy. They will scream and holler that we Americans are ignorant fools. Obama said we're too scared and not thinking rationally because we don't support his policies. No, we're finally thinking clearly. Americans have finally woken up and see through the liberal politicians' double-speak. The Great Liberalism Experiment is over! The 2nd American revolution is underway.

Democracy is doomed to fail once the general population realizes they can vote themselves largesse from the public coffers. Sound familiar? If only we followed our Constitution we'd have much smaller Federal income taxes. All those unconstitutional programs wasting our tax dollars should be done - if at all - at the state level

Let's look at Alexander Fraser Tytler's exact full quote:

A democracy is always temporary in nature; it simply cannot exist as a permanent form of government. A democracy will continue to exist up until the time that voters discover that they can vote themselves generous gifts from the public treasury. From that moment on, the majority always votes for the candidates who promise the most benefits from the public treasury, with the result that every democracy will finally collapse due to loose fiscal policy, which is always followed by a dictatorship. The average age of the world's greatest civilizations from the beginning of history has been about 200 years. During those 200 years, these nations always progressed through the following sequence:

  • From bondage to spiritual faith;
  • From spiritual faith to great courage;
  • From courage to liberty;
  • From liberty to abundance;
  • From abundance to complacency;
  • From complacency to apathy;
  • From apathy to dependence;
  • From dependence back into bondage.

This is our future if we do not stop out of control federal spending and cut federal taxes. As for state income taxes, I don't have a problem with them. If they're too high I can vote out my state rep and Governor out. My vote has much more impact at the local and state level. But on the Federal level I have much less voting power. 2 Senators out of 100 = 2% of the vote. That's it. My representation is 2% in the Senate! Plus we all have a very small House representation for each state. Even California, a large state still has a small percentage of representation in the House.

Our forefathers intentionally wanted states to have the most power (See 10th Amendment - "The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the States, are reserved to the States respectively, or to the people."). Our forefathers wanted states to have control over most issues because "the people" could have a more direct representation on issues. That is what democracy is about. The Founders didn't want an all-powerful central government controlling everything because they knew "power corrupts; absolute power corrupts absolutely".

It's important to add that conservative red states are lumped in with blue liberal states which results in 'purple' compromises. Often these compromises aren't truly compromises. For instance, the Left wanted national healthcare plus single payer, while the Right wanted reform of healthcare but certainly not gov't run. The Right wanted the ability to buy insurance across state lines to spark price competition. Well, we got ObamaCare minus the single payer BUT with a MANDATE that forces you to buy health insurance. Does that sound like a compromise to you

The Left may not have gotten everything they wanted but the Right got NOTHING they wanted. I call this the slow road to tyranny. Little baby steps of liberal policies that will one day lead to socialized healthcare and the destruction of private insurance companies. When the government completely owns healthcare and can make decisions about your health, that is the day American liberty died. I see the Statue of Liberty knocked down onto one knee and struggling to get up against the onslaught of anti-freedom liberal policies and crushing debt. Meanwhile the liberals ignorantly claim deficits and big government are not 'evil' while mocking tea partiers as "tea baggers".

I should add that these "purple" Federal policies passed with so-called "bipartisan" support (squishy RINOs) are not always in the best interests of a particular state and are sometimes not governed by our Constitution, which began to be ignored under FDR with the New Deal and social security. Note: I support social security now since we're stuck with it. However, a social security program should have been done at the state level. Most states are governed by their constitutions or statutory requirements to have a balanced budget, so at least if they had social security programs, they would be FISCALLY VIABLE and not bankrupt like federal social security.

Also some states give more to the Federal treasury than they use. Shouldn't that state and it's citizens use the wealth it generated for its own citizens? If we force states to compete for jobs it will result in higher salaries and lower state taxes. People will want to live there. Granted, I live in a Blue state (CT) with a state income tax, but it's lower than neighboring New York. Now, some states like Alabama would initially be hurt if we move away from the Federal gov't "doling out" federal tax money to each state, since they take more federal funds than they generate. But you know Alabama will pass corporate incentives and tax breaks to entice corporations and people to move there, which will generate more revenue in that state. That's how free market competition - even at the state level - is supposed to work. Alabama or any other state for that matter will no longer have to stick out their tin cup begging for Federal tax dollars. Why do we give our tax dollars to the federal gov't only to have them give it back to us at the state level? You know for every $1.00 tax dollars you give to the Feds, you get like $0.40 cents back or less due to gov't waste, bureaucracy, and waste. I for one plan to move to a non-taxing Red state like FL or TX when I retire.

IT IS IMPORTANT TO NOTE that even moderate Democrats and Republicans vote with their Party typically 90% of the time. So in reality, even moderate Democrats will vote in the most Left wing policies like ObamaCare even though they promised to be centrist Democrats. If you consider yourself a moderate or Independent who agrees with Democrats on some issues, many of you were sorely disappointed with the ramming of ObamaCare. You're probably wondering where the hell is the moderate Democrat you voted for. There is no longer a moderate Democrat party. It has been co-opted by the extreme Left wing. The same can probably be said of the Republican Party. It is more Right wing, but considering more Americans consider themselves conservative than liberals, I think voting for the Far Right over the Far Left is more in line with most Americans views. America was founded on individual freedom and liberty. The Left's socialism, wealth redistribution, class warfare, and race baiting are tenets of Communism - not Americanism.

We defeated communism and we will defeat liberalism when we remember what made this country great. I pray that is sooner rather than later. I see the torch of freedom flickering in the hand of the Statue of Liberty as she struggles to get up under the weight of debt and socialism. But her light still shines brightly enough... like Paul Revere in the night riding to warn of impending attack from America's enemy - liberalism. Her torch reaches all he way to Massachusetts where even über-liberal Democrat Barney Frank was in danger of losing. Her torch is fueled by freedom loving patriots like the Tea Party. Will this election and the Tea Party patriots rekindle that fire of liberty enough to save this nation from disaster? God, I hope so.
