Foundation of Achievement Part IV

On Tuesday, we had our quarterly sales meeting. It is always enjoyable to spend time together with the sales team. I speak to them on the phone every week but having face time and enjoying food together is very special. While this was our third such meeting, it was the first meeting in Cleveland. It afforded the team to meet the many Broadvox personnel that support the SIP Trunking endeavor. We were able to thank our expanding provisioning, customer service and LNP teams. It is good to see such expansion during a time when many companies are scaling their organizations down.

The meeting had the usual subject areas, latest interoperability, new product features, sales performance, reporting requirements, etc. However, I did include a discussion of David Hibbard's Foundation of Achievement (I am not so vain as to believe they read my blog everyday). However, rather than lecture the team, I put up the four foundation blocks and asked them to consider what they might be. Not surprisingly, Mechanics and Coach were described accurately Vision and Story were not. It made for a good discussion and took our minds off the steady drumbeat of "Sell, Sell, Sell".

This type of team activity develops a stronger bond between team members and offers a bit of education. We are never too old or too smart to learn another thing or two. The conclusion of the discussion was a request for them to find a mentor. This is important to them, Broadvox and me. With a good mentor, they will improve their sales mechanics and their lives in general. Happy, successful people are more likely to achieve goals that are set out for them.

Let's close with this bit of hot news...The Alabama senate has voted to deregulate landline phones putting them on the same footing as cell phones and internet calling. Let's hope this is not a trend. Trusting AT&T and the other ILECs to do the right thing is ridiculous. I will be watching to see if this indeed becomes law.

Enjoy the Holiday! See you on Monday!
