It's 2:00 A.M. in the Morning

With 311 million people in America, I wondered how many of them set their alarms to wake up at 2:00 a.m. to set their clocks forward an hour. I’d tell you the number but I could not find a study on the subject. Also, please note that no babies are born on this day between 2:00 and 3:00 a.m. ahhh, the joys and mysteries of daylight saving time.

Friday I was on a plane home and did not cook. However, while visiting the Broadvox office in Atlanta I got the idea to make oysters po’ boys on Saturday. They were really good. I served them with a homemade tartar, thinly sliced tomatoes and lettuce. Since I was deep frying the oysters, I also deep fried unbattered corn on the cob for three minutes. The result was interesting, sweet, different but odd. Sunday I prepared Cornish game hens stuffed with sausage and wild rice. I struggled to decide whether to make the dish southwestern with Mexican seasonings or northeastern with Italian seasonings. I decided to compromise. I made the southwestern version and developed the Italian version as the recipe. I arrived at this decision because I made my own sausage seasoned with an array of Mexican herbs and spices and decided it was just too much work for the average cook. Additionally, chorizo, the most prevalent Mexican sausage available in the US is not good for this purpose, whereas good sweet Italian sausage is easy to find. I served my game hens with broiled corn on the cob (I had two ears left), guacamole and fresh tomato salsa. Please enjoy the recipe of the week, Cornish Game Hens stuffed with Sausage and Wild Rice.

Managed Services

Broadvox offers cloud computing, hosted communications and managed services. Our Unified Communications as a Service (UCaaS) managed service is an industry leading package of integrated applications, services and support. Managed services are different from both cloud computing and hosted services in that there is a greater commitment to Service Level Agreements (SLA) and Quality of Service (QoS). The managed service provider is responsible for the entire implementation, operation and maintenance of the application or solution. This includes the onsite physical infrastructure and software. A fully managed service is the ultimate in reducing the certain requirements for internal IT expertise and avoiding technology obsolescence. Also, because it is offered at a fixed monthly rate, it is easy to budget for and eliminates capital expenditures.

A fully managed service does require the customer to be more vigilant in establishing a solid SLA with agreed to response times for service interruptions or QoS issues. The selection of a managed service provider is also more difficult as they should be financially sound, have a well developed solution, offer end-to end business continuity and have geographic failover and backups.

While cloud computing, hosted service and managed service share common attributes, they are different and deliver unique value propositions. After a detailed appraisal, a business may find that one or all may be relevant to their IT strategy.
