New Standards Enable UK Regulators To Legalize Low-Power FM Transmitters
Engadget reports that starting December 8, certain low-power FM transmitters- such as the type used to play songs from your iPod over your car stereo- will be legal accourding to the UK office of Communication.
This type of low-power FM technology had been banned for fear of interference with legal FM signals. Yet a combination of wide availability as well the emergence of a European Union standard for low-power transmitters has paved the way for this change.
The enabling change is a revision in the Exemptions to the Wireless Telegraphy Regulations as long as a CE mark noting the specific device's compliance with the EU standard is actually on the device.
