ICANN to vote tomorrow on .xxx domain for -you guessed it

The Governmental Advisory Committee of the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) is set to vote tomorrow on a voluntary ".xxx" domain for porn sites.

The proposal is backed by ICM Registry, LLC, which claims it has 76,000 sites ready to sign on if ICANN greenlights the proposal. ICM also says it has received "more than 1,200 expressions of support" from webmasters.

Whether ICANN will grant .xxx  isn't a certainty, however. It has rejected such proposals twice since 2000. In fact, earlier this week, ICANN CEO Paul Twomey, termed the proposal "clearly controversial, clearly polarizing."
