Key hearing this Friday on EFF-AT&T "spying" dispute

November 14, 2006

On Friday, Judge Vaughn Walker of the U.S. 9th Circuit Court of Appeals in San Francisco will conduct a hearing vital to determining in which way the U.S. Government and AT&T's appeal of an Electronic Frontier Foundation case against AT&T to go forward.

In its suit, the EFF alleges that AT&T collaborated with the Feds in a National Security Agency program that the EFF believes is illegal.

The Feds and AT&T claim that a "state secret privilege" effectively blocks Federal judges from rendering judgement on the legality of such a program.

The hearing will begin at 10:30 a.m. at the U.S. District Court in San Francisco.
