Xten Deliverables

November 28, 2003 9:20 PM

Well, the end of the month is growing nearer and the X-Men [Xten Team Members] are hard at work getting several customer projects ready for production release. Sleep is hard to come by but everyone is well fed and the drink is plentiful. Spirits are high as I think everyone is looking forward to some well deserved time off during X-Mas, or maybe we are just inebriated =) Intermittent foosball games create a distraction and break up the relative silence. Mark is off to the NYSAA [New York Security Analysts Association] presentation on Monday where he will be doing a mini road show and a meet and greet with some very interested investors. Our customers are happy, our competitors are not, our partners are jumping and our investors are salivatingsmile Life is good at Xten.

Secure VoIP & SIP

November 25, 2003 10:44 AM

The next big question for SIP is security. How will we ensure ourselves that the call is not being overheard. Professionals from every corner are working on a Secure method for using SIP in VoIP. That much is evident by the action on the IETF SIP threads and SIP Authentication, SCTP and TLS methods already in use. Other methods have also been implemented from several vendors which provide a more comprehensive and imediate fix for Secure SIP Voice conversations and conferencing. Xten has developed and recently released X-Cipher which is a SIP softphone that has some very unique encryption capabilities. This SIP endpoint can readily be turned into a highly secure IP soft phone at the click of a button. X-Cipher requires a server component that also must be deployed. Here is a snapshot of the offering: X-Cipher Solution: - MD5 or SHA1 challenges - 3DES or AES 128, 192 or 256 bit encryption - Crypto safe random generators - X-Cipher to X-Cipher complete encryption - X-Tunnels NAT traversal functionality For more on Secure VoIP, check out X-Cipher on Xten's website.

November 24, 2003 10:02 PM

CITRON'S VONAGE LANDS FINANCING By BEN SILVERMAN http://www.nypost.com/business/11629.htm November 24, 2003 -- VONAGE, the voice- over-Internet-protocol (VoIP) provider headed by Datek co-founder Jeffrey Citron, has a bundle of new cash at its disposal. The company plans to announce today that it has secured $35 million in new financing led by venture capital firm New Enterprise Associates. "To get a transaction done with something involving the words 'Internet' and 'telephony' in the same sentence is really an accomplishment," Vonage CFO John Rego said. Rego wouldn't say what type of valuation the company got on the deal, but he says Vonage's management still owns more than 50 percent of the company. Vonage will use the money for marketing and to expand service to Canada and Europe.

Net2Phone raises 58M with help from IDT

November 20, 2003 10:12 PM

2004 and 2005 will be the hottest 2 years in VoIP. Another good indication of this is Net2Phone's announcement today of the 58M financing. VoCable [Voice-over Cable] is yet another flavour of VoIP and this stock offering shows the willingness of investors to buy into the technology. It won't be the last you will see in the coming months. Net2Phone Raises 58M Also in the news today, Calgary's Wi-LAN announced a VoIP offering. To be honest I don't see the big sell here considering anyone can deploy VoIP over Wi-Fi but here's the link just the same... Wi-LAN launches VoIP

TNITS - The Non-Incumbent Telephony System

November 16, 2003 4:39 PM

VoIP is great. With the advent of SIP we can look forward to some excellent technology and services coming our way. Various broadband telephony initiatives have spurred on some serious debate in the regulation of VoIP but so far there hasn't been any laws put in place to govern VoIP in the US. Similar things are happening in Canada. When speaking about the potential success of Wi-Fi VoIP we can assume similar complaints from the mobile telephony providers including cellular and 2.5/3G. But do they really have anything to fear, at least in the short term? Making or receiving VoIP phone calls on a PDA while sipping your favorite coffee at your local Starbucks is one thing but how practical is it to replace our cell phone with a wireless VoIP enabled PDA? Taking it to the Next Level Imagine what would happen if the majority of all users that have a phone line and broadband came together to offer free IP/PSTN VoIP!

Working for the Weekend

November 15, 2003 12:27 AM

Yeah, right. Xten is a busy little company. Most if not all of the Xten engineers are in 7 days a week working their asses off so we can make phone calls using our PCs, PDAs etc. I was just thinking a random thought, I can't wait until the codec wars are over so we can all freely communicate, PSTN or otherwise. Bring on iLBC, go Alan go! Have a great weekend everyone!

Canada's largest telco Bell Canada is requesting that the CRTC [Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission] immediately commence a public hearing into the appropriate regulatory framework to govern the offering of services by the next generation of communications companies offering bundles of services. SaskTel supports the motion as recently made evident by their document submitted to the CRTC on November, 10th.

Wireless VoIP

November 13, 2003 12:37 PM

Although this niche in the VoIP sector is not generating a great deal of revenue for anyone at the moment, Wi-Fi VoIP has captured the attention of the PDA hardware vendors and we can expect more action in the new year as Cellular providers battle over customers and reach for added value propositions. As wireless broadband Internet technology matures VoIP providers will be ready to deliver. As it sits today, you can forget about making VoIP calls on your Wi-Fi PDA while driving to work.

VoIP is nearing Prime Time

November 12, 2003 5:37 PM

AT&T, Time Warner, Comcast, and recently Qwest have announced their strategies for deploying VoIP in the home. This is good news for the consumer and creates more competition in the market which in turn equates to better technology for all. Let us all rejoice in the rebirth of non-incumbent telephony.
