Welcome to “Social Spotlight,” a social media blog designed to be your go-to resource for everything about connecting your world to your people via technology.
My name is Rachel Ramsey and I am a Web Editor here at TMCnet. I’ve worked my way up from the bottom of the TMC totem pole, from interning to freelance writing, and now working to help TMCnet provide the top technology and communications news to the industry as a Web Editor. I am a recent graduate of James Madison University, where I received a B.A. in Media Arts and Design and a Communication Studies minor.
I remember the first day I heard about Facebook. I was a sophomore in high school, and my friend’s older sister was getting ready to head to her freshman year at Fordham University. She was connecting with her roommates on a website only for college students -- already getting settled into school before even setting foot on campus. Fast forward to today; Facebook has grown to more than one billion users and is integrated with hundreds of other sites for a fully connected Web experience. It has also led to the emergence and popularity of other sites: Twitter, Pinterest, Tumblr, LinkedIn, Myspace (yes, it’s back in action) and many more.
There are people that choose to not get too involved in social media, mostly for reasons along the lines of privacy and distraction. I am not one of those people. Not to say that I don’t keep a fair share of my life private and social media-appropriate, but I love to embrace what social media has to offer. New features? Love them. Mobile app integration? I’m there. I’m open to learning about everything social media is improving on and this blog will follow that journey as social media continues to evolve.Stay tuned! Hope you enjoy it.
