The SIP School™ and the ITSPA become friends

March 31, 2010

Really happy for The SIP School to become a full member of the ITSPA in the UK as it not only allows us to support the organisation but helps us get the message out to all the members about our SIP training service, especially our new Sales course that you can see on the web site...

Here's the wording from the official press release:

The SIP School™ today announced that has joined the Internet Telephony Service Providers Association in the UK.

Graham Francis, CEO of The SIP School said, "Joining the ITSPA is important to us for a number of reasons.  First, we want to support the efforts of the ITSPA in its efforts to encourage the development of the VoIP industry in the UK and Second, to help us gain more visibility to the members of the ITSPA to assist them in their SIP and VoIP training needs".

The SIP School™ with its SIP training and SSCA® program has become the world leader in SIP education with endorsements and partnerships with the likes of the TIA, Bisci, Mitel, Panasonic, Audiocodes, Avaya's DevConnect Community, Telematrix, AudioCodes, Ingate and many more.

The ITSPA was formed in March 2004 as a trade association to represent UK-based network operators, service providers and other businesses involved with the supply of VoIP services to business and residential consumers within the United Kingdom and across the European Union.

Next up, UCEXPO in London

February 9, 2010

It's been a busy couple of weeks with me jetting of to ITEXPO East to work alongside the good people of Ingate, both moderating and presenting - as well as meeting as many people as possible to talk about our SIP training and certification program.  All I can say is that it was well worth the trip and great to actually meet face to face with people I have only previously communicated with via email, skype etc. etc.

Before I can catch my breath it's time to prepare for my next seminar at UCEXPO in London UK on March the 10th.

The session is called 'SIP Trunking - Getting it right 1st time' - and is designed to make companies who are looking to implement trunks think hard about what they need to do to prepare their network and what they should expect from their service providers.

More detail can be found here and to register for UCEXPO click here and I look forward to seeing you there if you can make it.

The SIP School™ speaks at ITEXPO

January 5, 2010

So at last, this year I'm going to make it across to ITEXPO and even better, I'm going to get a chance to work with one of our partners - Ingate.  I'll be moderating on a couple of sessions and also presenting on the Friday so looking forward to meeting lots of new faces and some old friends.

If anyone out there wants to meet up during the show, please get in touch and here's the press release sent out today....

The SIP School™ announces today that CEO, Graham Francis will be presenting at the new SIP Trunk Summit at ITEXPO East 2010. Sponsored by Ingate® Systems with TMC, these educational seminars bring together leading IP-PBX vendors, SIP trunking service providers and industry thought leaders to provide a comprehensive overview of SIP trunking with key issues faced by enterprises, carriers and VARs today.

Free to all ITEXPO attendees, the Summit will be held January 20-22, 2010 at the Miami Beach Convention Center in Miami, Florida, in room A108/A109.

The seminar called "Deploying SIP Trunks - Getting it Right the First Time" running on Friday the 22nd @ 10am, will take people through a series of steps that they need to follow in order to implement SIP Trunks into their business so that they work first time and will pave the way for a successful transition from traditional links.

Graham Francis says "SIP Trunking is already popular yet 2010 will see implementation numbers rocket! Everyone wants the cost savings that SIP Trunks promise but if people don't do their homework then installations can be messy and end up costing more. This seminar gives people the insights into deploying SIP Trunks quickly and effectively so that they can start saving money right away.

"Ingate is proud that The SIP School™ will participate in the SIP Trunk Summit," said Steven Johnson, president, Ingate Systems.

SIP in Unified Communications

August 25, 2009

Do you fire up your Gmail client to send an email to another Gmail user?  And would that email fail to arrive if you used Outlook instead?  Of course not and it's all down to the standard email protocol called SMTP.  Every email client supports it so you don't have to worry what the other person is using.  Likewise, HTTP delivers web content regardless of the browser being used.

This has always been the promise of SIP (the Session Initiation Protocol).  Designed to establish, manage and 'tear down' communication channels between any media device, anywhere.  Sound good?

SIP in Unified Communications

I'm not going to give you a definition of Unified Communications (UC) here, just hit Google and wade through all the interpretations that pop up.

AudioCodes recommendation for The SIP School™

August 12, 2009

Birmingham, West Midlands, Wednesday, 12th August 2009

The SIP School has gained another big 'thumbs up' for its SIP training and SSCA™ certification service and this time it's from Alan Percy the Director of Market Development at AudioCodes.

Alan says, "I've found The SIP School materials to be quite helpful in getting our customers and partners started with their SIP education and very easy to use and follow.  For those just getting started with SIP, The SIP School is an excellent resource that I personally recommend."

Brekeke partner with The SIP School™

July 28, 2009

The SIP School has gained another major endorsement for its SIP training and SSCA™ certification service and this time it's from Brekeke, a growing leader in the IP-PBX and SIP server software market.   Brekeke is based out of San Mateo, California and produces SIP Server and IP PBX solutions that can run on Windows, Linux, Mac OSX, Solaris plus many other platforms.   As a Brekeke 'IT Business Training Partner', The SIP School™ is recommended by Brekeke as the place to go to gain an excellent understanding of SIP which is the protocol that underpins their IP PBX and SIP Server products.   Graham Francis, CEO of The SIP School said: "It's great news for us to be partnering with Brekeke as once again it shows that companies understand that good foundation training on SIP is required so that people can install and support their products more effectively"

SIP, a reality check

July 13, 2009

If you and your company are involved in Voice over IP and Unified Communications then there's no doubt you'll have heard about SIP (the Session Initiation Protocol).  You may be (even a little bit) excited about all the things it promises to achieve by enabling multivendor products and services to work together.  However, sometimes it's good and even necessary to just stop and look closely at what's actually happening with SIP, who's using it and what lies ahead for this most disruptive of protocols!

So let's start by asking,

What is SIP?

Well, SIP is boring!

Ok, to me it's not boring. However to people who simply want to make phone calls and use IM or their Unified Communications client to 'reduce human latency' (yes, that's a real UC benefit) it's not really something they care about.  Who wants to talk about signalling protocols, new SIP methods and the work of the IETF working groups?  Not your customers that's for sure - all they want to know is will it work, how much and will it save them money?
