MSOs Upgrading Furiously to Meet Triple-Play Threat

A study announced today by multimedia research firm MRG finds that nervous Multi System Operators (MSOs) are pouring money and accelerated efforts into upgrades to meet the triple-play threat from satellite and telco competitors.

Triple-Play Service & Infrastructure Upgrade Report From MRG Reveals Plans for Major US MSOs 2005-2008

Infrastructure upgrades are required in order to handle the demand for converged services, such as VoIP, high-speed data, VOD, home digital video recording and other interactive services.

MRG's report also says that MSOs are confronting the problem of the "silo effect" -- complications and costs from running simultaneous IP and non-IP systems.
