Canada's 911 says something about the US 911

In a recent article the 911 system of Canada was cited for having a few major flaws when it comes to wireless and IP phone access. The issues have caused delays that actually cost lives.

The truth is that everyone has issues that need to be resolved. It is all in how issues are dealt with. One comment actually gave props to the US in an indirect way about its 911 system.

...affordable, proven, and practical GPS technology used in the US, and required beginning in 2001 that allow dispatchers to find wireless users, and which could have saved these lives or prevented the injuries from becoming worse has not been deployed in Canada.

There is really no "business case" that needs to be made when it comes to providing the level of support presumed by the users and ethically required for 911. From the article it is clear that the carriers have the money. Sadly, sometimes the right thing doesn't happen - at least not right away.
