As I sit here at the first ITEXPO/Communications Developer keynote by Lawrence Byrd of Avaya, I realize he makes a great point when he mentions how vital communications is to business. This is especially true in light of the recent financial turmoil emanating on Wall Street but spreading worldwide.

As he mentions, communications is becoming a great development environment and developers need a level of abstraction when developing. Byrd points out we need to turn communications into web services so they can be plugged into other applications.
