Sateliot Expands 5G Satellite Constellation

Key Takeaways:

  • Sateliot will launch five new satellites in 2026 as part of its goal to build a 100+ satellite constellation.
  • The satellites, manufactured by Alén Space in Spain, will feature increased payload and support both commercial and defense use cases.
  • This move reinforces Sateliot’s commitment to European space autonomy and global 5G IoT coverage.
  • The company has over €270 million in existing contracts and aims for €1 billion in revenue by 2030.

Sateliot, the Barcelona-based satellite connectivity company, has announced the next phase of its low-Earth orbit (LEO) constellation with the commissioning of five new satellites. Built by Spanish smallsat manufacturer Alén Space, the new satellites are set to launch in 2026 and will serve as a core piece of Sateliot’s expanding 5G IoT network.

This announcement continues a partnership that began with the successful deployment of Sateliot’s first four commercial satellites in 2024, which were also manufactured by Alén Space and launched aboard a SpaceX rocket. The new satellites will include enhanced performance capabilities and increased payload capacity, broadening the types of services Sateliot can support—ranging from agriculture and shipping to territorial monitoring and emergency response.

The initiative is part of Sateliot’s broader plan to deploy more than 100 satellites, all built and validated in Spain. According to the company, its satellites adhere to the 3GPP global telecom standard, enabling direct satellite connectivity to standard NB-IoT devices without hardware modifications. This approach could lower deployment barriers for mobile operators and enterprises in remote and underserved areas.

Jaume Sanpera, CEO of Sateliot

“We are capable of building critical infrastructure from scratch in Spain,” said Jaume Sanpera, CEO of Sateliot. “We’ve developed open and interoperable technology that not only meets global connectivity needs, but also contributes to European technological sovereignty.”

The company currently holds contracts with more than 400 clients across 50 countries, totaling approximately €270 million in commitments. With this foundation, Sateliot is targeting €1 billion in revenue by 2030. Its value proposition centers on offering a globally accessible IoT service that seamlessly extends terrestrial networks into rural, maritime, and industrial zones.

From a technical standpoint, the upgraded satellites being built at Alén Space’s facility in Nigrán, Spain, reflect a shift toward more versatile and secure architectures. In addition to handling conventional IoT use cases, the new designs will be capable of supporting communications in high-demand environments such as defense, border surveillance, and disaster recovery.

“This agreement acknowledges the quality of the work carried out on the first four satellites,” said Guillermo Lamelas, CEO of Alén Space. “It strengthens our position as the most reliable small satellite manufacturer and supports an innovative project that will redefine the future of communications from Spain.”

For Sateliot, the timing is also strategic. As governments and enterprises increasingly look for alternatives to traditional telecom infrastructure, satellite-based IoT solutions have gained traction for their scalability and cost-effectiveness. The company’s model leverages the existing NB-IoT ecosystem and combines it with satellite coverage to close connectivity gaps globally.

Sateliot’s expansion plays directly into the European Union’s broader objective of space autonomy. With geopolitical uncertainty reshaping global supply chains and infrastructure strategies, initiatives that keep design, production, and IP within Europe are being prioritized. By working with local partners and investing in domestic engineering capabilities, Sateliot positions itself as a leading player in the European space economy.

In the near term, all eyes will be on the 2026 launch. These five new satellites are expected to further validate Sateliot’s technology and serve as a commercial inflection point for the business. If successful, they will mark another step toward a scalable, standards-based satellite network built entirely within Europe—and available to the world.
