The legendary Tony Lewis – well known in the open-source space and previously at Sangoma, is at it again. We spoke with him over the summer to learn about his startup Clearly IP where he is co-founder & CEO. In July, in an exclusive interview, he told us, “Clearly IP is a different idea. Some of my most successful businesses in the past haven’t had a business plan, we just solved customer problems. The first part of our mission was to do things we enjoy doing.”
“The team has years of experience in Asterisk and FreePBX. We will be sticking to our roots at the start and then go outside the space in the future,” he exclaimed.
The company sells numerous products and services already – a bewildering amount actually. Telecom M&A consulting, custom development, FreePBX and Asterisk support contracts, SIP trunking, PBX hardware appliances, and IP Phones are a few. Where Clearly IP shines are focusing on the lesser focused areas of smaller resellers and MSPs.
Perhaps most exciting is the cloud-based provisioning system that supports various models on the market. This will include APIs and multi-tenancy for security and compliance reasons. Now this isn’t their first foray into device management, as the team was previously responsible for FreePBX which managed 300+ devices, giving them a good starting point.
In less than two months since this initial discussion, Clearly IP has come out of the gate and announced it has completed an acquisition, financed by the company’s investment cash and a loan from Nicolet National Bank of Neenah.
Clearly IP will acquire all assets of Cyclix Solutions LLC, a leading information technology and telecom services company with operations based in Gilford, New Hampshire. They say it is the first of many for the company. It expands Clearly IP’s offering of telecom services business and will enhance it’s already robust suite of communications and IT services for businesses across North America.
Under the terms of the deal, Cyclix will maintain its operations in Gilford, New Hampshire, and Cyclix Solutions employees will assume important roles within the Clearly IP Organization as Cyclix merges with Clearly IP’s business. Clients ranging from small businesses to enterprise carriers such as Verizon Wireless will continue to receive the highest quality of service, and all agreements, points of contact, and billings will continue uninterrupted.
“On behalf of my colleagues, we are pleased to welcome Cyclix customers and staff into the Clearly IP family. Our purpose is to fuel the vitality and growth of our existing and new customers by making a full-suite of advanced IT and communications services available to businesses of all sizes, by providing robust communications services that other providers simply do not deliver. One of the biggest assets within any company is the people and customers and we are so excited to get our first acquisition under the Clearly IP umbrella completed. We feel the market is perfect for the acquisition of SIP trunk and hosted PBX providers who have grown their business as large as they can and want help moving it to the next level. Our handpicked experienced team of industry experts has successfully completed both large and small integrations in the past, and we are on an aggressive growth campaign, looking at acquisitions that can help provide new customers, revenue and products to complement our own homegrown solutions.” said Tony.
Bryan Walters, co-founder and Chief Technology Officer of Clearly IP, noted, “We look forward to building upon the business started by Cyclix, by investing in network and product capabilities to support the growing demands for advanced technology. We look forward to continuing to deliver a high-quality suite of services along with unparalleled customer support. ”
Peter Sandstrom, CEO of Cyclix, added, “After spending years growing Cyclix into a leading provider of telecom services with our SIP Trunking, Business Connect Hybrid Hosted Platforms and custom IVR applications with our Sigma Systems Platform, being able to continue to improve and expand excites us all. The industry experience and technical talent at Clearly IP will strengthen Cyclix Solutions’ place as a premier telecom services company, and enable us to provide a better future for our clients, partners, and staff. We are entering a new phase I am confident will prove rewarding for our entire team.”
Tony told us back in July that their SIP trunking costs will include taxes and fees and have pricing transparency and ease “Like T-Mobile,” he exclaimed.
Last night in another interview he explained that the growth of Clearly IP will be organic and via acquisition. “And this is just the start of our growth plan, and we look forward to expanding the reach of our world-class communication software products with Cyclix’s growing customer base,” he exclaimed
