Last month I penned a piece title Brexit Could be Yuuuge for China which tied together Brexit, Trump and a democratic China.

Specifically:

At some point soon, it seems inevitable that the China domino will drop. The next five to ten years is a probable window when this happens. There will likely be some sort of uprising, reformation or another Tiananmen Square type incident.

A more democratic China is a win for global companies and global workers. Much of the activities above will hopefully moderate as a result.

These revolutions/uprisings/protests tend to follow one-another. In the past decade there was one in Iran, in the U.S .we had Occupy Wall Street, Black Lives Matter and the Tea Party. In the Middle East we’ve had the Arab Spring and as recently as a week or so ago, Turkey had a coup – although some believe it may have been fabricated.

The point is, the Chinese people are highly repressed and the Communist government wants to keep it that way. I surmised that Brexit will be the tipping point. I explained there is no way the Chinese authorities could keep this news from its citizens.

I was right.

China agrees.

Because they have now banned Internet news and will more tightly manage the news flow to its citizens. This isn’t just because of Brexit of course but this has to be a major factor. The government realizes the situation they are in and want to do everything they can to hold onto power.

Still, even with a chokehold on news, can you really prevent your citizens from finding out the UK voted to exit the UK – essentially taking back their country?

The next five to ten years seems like the window for this to happen and the most recent blockade on internet news may accelerate such action.

The internet has helped usher in political upheaval around the world.
