The round was led by Bessemer Venture Partners, with participation from 8VC, Tru Arrow, SineWave, In-Q-Tel, and Zero Prime \u2014 bringing the company\u2019s total funding to $65 million.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>DataHub, formerly known as Acryl Data, is rebranding to reflect its mission more directly: enabling AI systems to safely interact with data by resolving the context gaps that hinder machine-scale decision-making.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cRapid adoption of AI in the enterprise is revealing the significance of comprehensive visibility, reliability, and trust across the data and AI ecosystem,\u201d said Swaroop Jagadish, CEO and co-founder of DataHub. \u201cWe\u2019re building the architecture for machine-scale data governance.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>With more than 3,000 organizations using the open source version \u2014 including Apple, Netflix, Pinterest, and Slack \u2014 DataHub is positioning itself as the foundation for <strong>AI-aware data infrastructure<\/strong>, where humans and AI agents can both access, analyze, and act on data with context.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As AI systems grow more embedded in business operations, metadata is becoming a non-negotiable component for governance, trust, and real-time responsiveness. DataHub\u2019s architecture allows AI models and agents to:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>Identify data lineage and schema changes<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Monitor data quality<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Determine when it\u2019s safe and relevant to act<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Adapt predictions when underlying inputs evolve<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>CTO and co-founder Shirshanka Das added, \u201cDataHub provides the context that AI systems need to understand data lineage, quality, and semantics\u2014enabling organizations to unlock the full potential of their AI investments.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Bessemer\u2019s Lauri Moore, who joins the company\u2019s board, emphasized the broader market shift:<br>\u201cMetadata is the missing link enabling organizations to transition from human-scale data analytics to machine-scale enterprise AI.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>DataHub plans to invest in:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>Growing its open source community (now 13,000+ members)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Advancing AI governance capabilities<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Expanding go-to-market and customer success teams<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Scaling adoption of its managed platform, DataHub Cloud<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>DataHub operates in a competitive metadata management space that includes legacy providers like Collibra and Informatica, as well as newer cloud-native platforms such as Alation and Atlan. While traditional players have focused heavily on enterprise data cataloging and compliance, many have struggled to scale for real-time, AI-driven use cases. Cloud-first challengers like Atlan emphasize collaboration and user experience but may lack the depth of technical extensibility that DataHub\u2019s event-driven, schema-first architecture provides.
