{"id":6131,"date":"2007-11-30T06:24:35","date_gmt":"2007-11-30T06:24:35","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blog.tmcnet.com\/blog\/rich-tehrani\/e-commerce\/the-second-sprint-merger-that-wasnt.html"},"modified":"2007-11-30T06:24:35","modified_gmt":"2007-11-30T06:24:35","slug":"the-second-sprint-merger-that-wasnt","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blog.tmcnet.com\/blog\/rich-tehrani\/technology\/the-second-sprint-merger-that-wasnt.html","title":{"rendered":"The Second Sprint Merger That Wasn\u2019t"},"content":{"rendered":"<div style=\"MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt\">\n<div style=\"MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt\">Most in the blogosphere seemed to think a Google <a href=\"http:\/\/blog.tmcnet.com\/blog\/rich-tehrani\/google\/rumor-mill-google-acquiring-sprint.html\">acquisition<\/a> of Sprint was unlikely and although I agree the businesses are very different and Google would have a tough time explaining to Wall Street why the merger makes sense, I also have to wonder about the coincidence of Sprint Nextel turning down an acquisition bid just a few weeks after I <a href=\"http:\/\/blog.tmcnet.com\/blog\/rich-tehrani\/google\/rumor-mill-google-acquiring-sprint.html\">reported<\/a> on the initial rumor of Google purchasing the wireless phone carrier.<\/div>\n<div style=\"MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt\">&nbsp;<\/div>\n<div style=\"MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt\">Although the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.tmcnet.com\/comsol\/articles\/15557-sprint-nextel-refuses-5-billion-sk-telecom-offer.htm\">news<\/a> of SK Telecom making a <a href=\"http:\/\/blog.tmcnet.com\/blog\/rich-tehrani\/ip-communications\/sprint-turns-down-5-billion-offer.html\">failed acquisition<\/a> does not lend credibility to the rumor, it would seem highly coincidental that the rumor hit my desk from multiple sources as the same time as the company was discussing a possible merger.
