The only question is why did it take so long? Here are thoughts on the new CEO Position and what has to happen:<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-indent: -0.25in;\"><span><span>1)<span style=\"\">&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160; <\/span><\/span><\/span>She\/He has to be from an entrepreneurial new media company<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-left: 1in; text-indent: -0.25in;\"><span><span>a.<span style=\"\">&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160; <\/span><\/span><\/span>If you hire someone well-known from the go-go days of the nineties &#8211; with no small company experience, Yahoo will continue to fail<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-left: 1in; text-indent: -0.25in;\"><span><span>b.<span style=\"\">&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160; <\/span><\/span><\/span>Google is competitor #1 and acts like a small company<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-left: 1.5in; text-indent: -1.5in;\"><span><span><span style=\"\">&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160; <\/span>i.<span style=\"\">&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160; <\/span><\/span><\/span>There is no other way to compete with them<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-left: 1in; text-indent: -0.25in;\"><span><span>c.<span style=\"\">&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160; <\/span><\/span><\/span>Find a person who has seen business transform as a result of the web. Someone dynamic and able to change quickly<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-indent: -0.25in;\"><span><span>2)<span style=\"\">&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160; <\/span><\/span><\/span>Speed: make this the number one imperative throughout the organization<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-left: 1in; text-indent: -0.25in;\"><span><span>a.<span style=\"\">&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160; <\/span><\/span><\/span>Roll out new products and services as fast as possible<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-indent: -0.25in;\"><span><span>3)<span style=\"\">&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160; <\/span><\/span><\/span>Mobile<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-left: 1in; text-indent: -0.25in;\"><span><span>a.<span style=\"\">&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160; <\/span><\/span><\/span>There needs to be a renewed focus on mobile browsing and search<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-left: 1in; text-indent: -0.25in;\"><span><span>b.<span style=\"\">&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160; <\/span><\/span><\/span>Ink deals with every carrier you can while you can<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-left: 1in; text-indent: -0.25in;\"><span><span>c.<span style=\"\">&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160; <\/span><\/span><\/span>Be everywhere<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-indent: -0.25in;\"><span><span>4)<span style=\"\">&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160; <\/span><\/span><\/span>Promote yourself<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-left: 1in; text-indent: -0.25in;\"><span><span>a.<span style=\"\">&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160; <\/span><\/span><\/span>Mail, sports, news, finance &#8211; there are just so many areas where Yahoo is a leader<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-left: 1.5in; text-indent: -1.5in;\"><span><span><span style=\"\">&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160; <\/span>i.<span style=\"\">&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160; <\/span><\/span><\/span>Why not promote this fact?<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-left: 1.5in; text-indent: -1.5in;\"><span><span><span style=\"\">&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160; <\/span>ii.<span style=\"\">&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160; <\/span><\/span><\/span>Tell advertisers how great your company is<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-indent: -0.25in;\"><span><span>5)<span style=\"\">&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160; <\/span><\/span><\/span>Brag<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-left: 1in; text-indent: -0.25in;\"><span><span>a.<span style=\"\">&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160; <\/span><\/span><\/span>Yahoo is so understated I felt that #4 on its own would not do the trick<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-left: 1.5in; text-indent: -1.5in;\"><span><span><span style=\"\">&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160; <\/span>i.<span style=\"\">&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160; <\/span><\/span><\/span>The company needs to be vociferous<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-left: 1.5in; text-indent: -1.5in;\"><span><span><span style=\"\">&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160; <\/span>ii.<span style=\"\">&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160; <\/span><\/span><\/span>Remind us why we use and love Yahoo<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-left: 1.5in; text-indent: -1.5in;\"><span><span><span style=\"\">&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160; <\/span><\/span><\/span>Act like the underdog you are<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-left: 1in; text-indent: -0.25in;\"><span><span>a.<span style=\"\">&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160; <\/span><\/span><\/span>Yahoo&#8217;s culture is one of a market leader<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-left: 1in; text-indent: -0.25in;\"><span><span>b.<span style=\"\">&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160; <\/span><\/span><\/span>While this is true in many sectors, customers and Wall Street don&#8217;t see it this way<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-left: 1in; text-indent: -0.25in;\"><span><span>c.<span style=\"\">&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160; <\/span><\/span><\/span>Become entrepreneurial<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-left: 1in; text-indent: -0.25in;\"><span><span>d.<span style=\"\">&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160; <\/span><\/span><\/span>Hire new people as needed to make this happen<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-left: 1in; text-indent: -0.25in;\"><span><span>e.<span style=\"\">&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160; <\/span><\/span><\/span>Get leaner<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-left: 1in; text-indent: -0.25in;\"><span><span>f.<span style=\"\">&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160; <\/span><\/span><\/span>Get meaner<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-indent: -0.25in;\"><span><span>7)<span style=\"\">&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160; <\/span><\/span><\/span>Push the toolbar<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-left: 1in; text-indent: -0.25in;\"><span><span>a.<span style=\"\">&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160; <\/span><\/span><\/span>The Yahoo Toolbar has access to so much rich Yahoo content<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-left: 1in; text-indent: -0.25in;\"><span><span>b.<span style=\"\">&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160; <\/span><\/span><\/span>Go on the offensive with the toolbar<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-left: 1in; text-indent: -0.25in;\"><span><span>c.<span style=\"\">&#038;#160<br \/>\n;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160; <\/span><\/span><\/span>Give the toolbar access to the best content from around the web &#8211; ESPN, CNN, etc<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-left: 1in; text-indent: -0.25in;\"><span><span>d.<span style=\"\">&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160; <\/span><\/span><\/span>Make it difficult for users to ignore the toolbar and get them to adopt it and likewise build search volume<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-indent: -0.25in;\"><span><span>8)<span style=\"\">&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160; <\/span><\/span><\/span>Copy Google<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-left: 1in; text-indent: -0.25in;\"><span><span>a.<span style=\"\">&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160; <\/span><\/span><\/span>Obviously it is good to be innovative but on occasion it makes sense to &#8220;borrow&#8221; ideas<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-left: 1in; text-indent: -0.25in;\"><span><span>b.<span style=\"\">&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160; <\/span><\/span><\/span>Give developers some free time to work on pet projects just Like Google<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-left: 1in; text-indent: -0.25in;\"><span><span>c.<span style=\"\">&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160; <\/span><\/span><\/span>Yahoo has so much potential to push new services to an entrenched audience<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-left: 1in; text-indent: -0.25in;\"><span><span>d.<span style=\"\">&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160; <\/span><\/span><\/span>They just need to roll out more and more of them at a faster clip<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-left: 1in; text-indent: -0.25in;\"><span><span>e.<span style=\"\">&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160; <\/span><\/span><\/span>This could even cut development cost<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-left: 1in; text-indent: -0.25in;\"><span><span>f.<span style=\"\">&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160; <\/span><\/span><\/span>Put relevant ads in Yahoo Mail. Why would you not do this?<\/p>\n<p>There are just so many ways to maximize revenue at Yahoo and it is bewildering that this internet legend is still struggling.
