Kevin O&#8217;Brien at the New York Times <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2010\/11\/05\/technology\/05alcatel.html?_r=1&amp;ref=technology\">explains<\/a> the company reported its first profitable quarter of the year, posting &euro;25 million,  or $35.3 million, in earnings compared to a &euro;182 million loss in the  third quarter a year earlier.
