Is there a way to receive another coupon or am I just out of luck? Thanks for your help."

McDowell: "Great question. Congress mandated that the coupons expire within 90 days. So your best recourse is to find a friend, neighbor or relative who does not need a coupon to order one for you and give it to you. Of course, if you don't need the coupon to be able to purchase the box, you can just buy one outright. They cost as little as $40."

Less than 100 days remain before the nation's analog broadcast television system is shut down for good. Thus far, the federal government has mailed nearly 32 million $40 coupons for the digital-to-analog converter boxes necessary to keep old TV sets working without cable or satellite. Of that 32 million, nearly a third have expired; 13.5 million have been redeemed, and the rest are floating around or sitting at the bottom of a drawer.

Stations have been doing dry runs for months to get folks prepared for the transition, and one of the most prevalent issues involves reception. The antennas that pulled in mostly low-VHF channels don't necessarily do the trick for digital signals, many of which will be UHF.

Where will you be when they pull the plug?

More at Television Broadcast.

All this coupon crap is bullshit! The government can afford to bail out all of these large fortune 500 companies, banks, mortgage companies, Wall Street, etc. So why don't they issue coupons for FREE converter boxes instead of making us pay the damn difference for them? I love my old analog tv and recieve damn good reception, why not leave well enough alone? If it ain't broken, why fix it? Everything is going crazy. This whole world is going to hell! Aw, fuck it all!

IT'S typical that the government would extend the program to keep the government workers employed, I agree this whole program is B.S.! If the program SAYS that they sent out a coupon to you, and you didn’t get it, then YOU ARE OUT OF LUCK !, the coupons ARE NOT GETTING TO THE PEOPLE WHO REALY NEED THEM ! the website leads you to believe that if you didn’t recieve your coupon, that you can re-apply, this will do you no good. The rules they go by state that after they say that they have mailed a set of coupons, your address will be canceled and you will NOT get another chance, regardless of whether you recieved the coupons or not. Repeated attempts to obtain coupons is considered suspicious acctivity! the only thing suspicious is the fat asses sitting there collecting a paycheck from OUR tax dollars making who knows what kind of mistakes which in the end makes it IMPOSSIBLE for honest people to get a stinking coupon!
I'M ready to forget the dam TV and take up target practice!

Count me in as someone who has been SCREWED by this program. I just got the denial of my appeal today. Like an IDIOT I was a responsible citizen who got in line early (as the Govt't was requesting). I recieved my coupons in early March and couldn't find any DECENT units to buy at that time. THE DECENT UNITS DIDN'T HIT THE SHELVES UNTIL MY COUPON HAD EXPIRED. I opted not to buy a piece of crap, and get back in line AS THEIR WEBSITE IMPLIED YOU COULD.

Now they say "Sorry, only 2 per household - even if we started the program too early".

So yeah.... the government has no problem giving hundreds of billions of my tax dollars to some of the most irresponsible companies in the country.... but they draw the line at a freakin $40 coupon to an average citizen. This is outrageous!

This program is ridiculous - everyone should write to their representatives in congress - I just did. You can paste and copy this as a start if you'd like:

--------------------------------------------------
Dear Representative xxxx,

I'm writing you today to express outrage at the horrendous way the DTV coupon program is being run. Like hundreds of thousands of others, I have fallen thru the cracks of this program and I'm now considered ineligible by those brilliant folks who conceived and manage this program. THEY SHOULD BE FIRED!

My only offense was being a responsible citizen and participating very early in the program as they requested. My coupons expired BEFORE any decent converter boxes were available for sale in my area. A recent appeal based on this fact to the programs appeal process was just denied.

In June, an MSNBC article (http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/25083123/) reported that over 840,000 coupons had expired before being used – 58% of issued coupons! Undoubtedly because as I previously stated, converter boxes were not available in many locals at that early in the year. At that time NTIA spokesman Todd Sedmak told some lawmakers, including Rep. Charles Gonzalez of Texas that they were considering and “reuse” idea. It has been 6 months... where is it?

It is outrageous that the government is treating responsible citizens in this matter over $40 while simultaneously handing out hundreds of billions of dollars to some of the most irresponsible companies in the country.

There is no reasonable reason to allow this ridiculous situation to continue. Any assistance that you could provide to help pressure these people at the NTIA to do the right thing would be greatly appreciated.

Sincerely,
