Apple In Patent Infringement Suit Over itsiTunes Allowance Plan
On Wednesday of last week, an electronic commerce solutions provider known as Restricted Spending Solutions filed a patent infringement suit against Apple for its iTunes Allowance program.
The feature lets users set up a child with a monthly "allowance" to buy tracks via iTunes, as well as the ability for users to send a monthly iTunes Store credit to a colleague, friend or family member.
The complaint by Restricted Spending Solutions claims that the company developed a "controlled spending account" feature in 2001. The feature was patented in 2006.
Restricted Spending is requesting damages for "irreparable injury," as well as a halt to iTunes Allowance.
