We've been working it out with Verizon Wireless V Cast music service for a month or so now and have had a largely positive experience with this attempt to trying get every essential gadget in a single all-in-one device.
Interested to hear if any one else out there has been using V Cast?
The phone lines are open ...

I'm getting a free one-month trial to Verizon's VCast, and I can't download music from the VCast website to my Windows Media Player 10 on my tablet PC. (As an aside, I can play audio CD's, rip music from those CD's into WMP 10, sync that music to my VCast cellphone, and then play the synced music with no problems at all. The problem is exclusively downloading music from the VCast website to my tablet PC.)
I installed everything from the Verizon Music Essentials Software package as I should have, including ActiveX controls. I "purchased" a free promotional song to give the thing a try. However, I can't download it, nor can I download any of the three other free songs that I "purchased." I keep getting this error message in the VCast download manager box: "You might have a problem in getting D/L related information (code: 0x2004)." From the Microsoft Windows Media website, that code is a media transfer protocol (MTP) error code that indicates an invalid TransactionID, that the TransactionID is zero or does not refer to a valid transaction. This indicates an internal error in MTP stack. However, the Microsoft website gives no indication how to fix the problem.
I spent over two hours with Verizon on the phone, plus doing other steps on my own or on the recommendations of Gateway E-mail support to try and fix the problem. These steps included:
1. Uninstalling and reinstalling the media player at least three times, both with the VCast software and directly from the WMP 10 website.
2. Disabling antivirus and firewall programs.
3. Updating digital media player security through this website:
http://drmlicense.one.microsoft.com/Indivsite/en/indivit.asp.
4. Doing a complete "System Restore" to a time point before the computer ever saw any VCast software and starting again from scratch.
5. Trying to download after booting up the computer in "safe mode with networking."
6. Disable all of my startup programs by running the "msconfig" utility in case there was a conflict with one of them.
7. Bought a song on the phone for $1.99. A phone purchase is accompanied by a companion file to download on the PC. When I logged in to V Cast music, I saw the song that I had just purchased on the phone, ready for download. When I clicked "Download," the download manager box opened, there was a short delay where nothing happened, and then the same error message "You might have a problem in getting D/L related information (code: 0x2004)" appeared. So I can't download either free or purchased music.
Nothing worked. Verizon accessed my account on their end with no problem. They tried to download the same promotional song as I simultaneously. They were successful. I was not. I kept getting the same error message with code 0x2004.
It doesn't make any sense. My computer is only 4 months old. It's a Gateway tablet PC that runs Windows XP Professional (2005 Tablet PC edition) and WMP 10. Everything is up to date and state-of-the-art. I have no idea why I can't download music or what I can do to fix the problem. I don't know if the tablet PC interface is interfering with the download, but that doesn't make any sense. Now, I am totally at a loss as to how to proceed from here. Any help anyone can provide would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
John -- I feel your pain. I am having the exact same problem with good ol' error code 2004. My only solution appears to be to not buy this feature from Verizon.
Too many problems will doom that initiative, particularly with iTunes phones now making their debut.
Well, at least I'm not the only one having problems with downloading!
In the meantime, I've discovered the Wal-Mart music download store. There's no monthly subscription fees, and songs are only 88 cents/track (11 cents cheaper than VCast). I bought a song, and it downloaded perfectly using the same WMP 10 that won't download VCast music. I synced the song to my phone, and it plays great!
So clearly, the problem is with VCast, not my computer.
Love that Wal-Mart!
John: your diligence is commendable.
I am also having problems with this download error. However, I note that I am able to get the downloads on one computer and not another. So, for the computers on which you are having the problem, are they computers that are behind company firewalls that have different levels of admin rights? Additionally, what phone are you using? Are you using more than one phone? Did you initially install the software on one machine and then move to another?
I appreciate your insights.
No, I've only tried on a single computer at home where I am the administrator. It's the only computer I have that has Windows XP and WMP 10. I'm using Verizon DSL, not a phone.
mine was doing the same thing. I had peer guardian installed and it was not letting me connect to the server. I disabled peer guardian and its working fine now.
Peer Guardian sounds like a firewall. I don't have a firewall beyond Windows, and I disabled it for the download attempt.
I work for vzw WDTS and here is the reason why this happens
error code 0X2004 is a media transfer protocol (MTP)
error code that indicates an invalid TransactionID, that the TransactionID is zero or does not refer to a valid transaction. This indicates an internal error in MTP stack
This is indeed a problem with the Media Transport Protocol, which isn't something that WDSC can or allowed to modify as it is part of the OS itself.
This customer would need to seek support from her Computer Manufacturer or Microsoft directly.
http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/default.asp?url=/library/en-us/wmdm10/htm/mtperrorcodes.asp
I hope that helps ...
Only in the sense that I now realize that I'm completely screwed and out of viable options. I've already exhausted all the tech support options with the computer manufacturer, which has already told me to contact Microsoft directly. Is it worth something like $25 for every 15 minutes to try and resolve the problem with Microsoft tech support? No.
I just got a Verizon V-cast phone with the "music essentials kit" and everything, but apparently because I have Windows Media Player 11, the V-cast software refuses to install. I'm also learning how if I truly want my cell phone to be an MP3 player, I'll need a decent memory card (the amount of space on the phone itself isn't that big at all). With all this money I'm throwing down, I may as well just save up and get a real MP3 player (iPod). Word on the street is that iPods can actually play music and because they're not affiliated with Microsoft you don't get cryptic random errors.
I guess I'm not hip enough to have all my 'toys' in one device just yet. A camera is a camera. A phone is a phone. And now an mp3 player is an mp3 player. This "all-in-one" business is a technology that still needs some growth before I truly take advantage of it.
I bought an LG Chocolate and the Music Essentials kit. Everything installed but when I open WMP to sync my music, my phone cannot be recognized. Any suggestions on how to fix this?
me too my computer recongnized a new hardware but my windows media player does not.
me too my computer recongnized a new hardware but my windows media player does not.
Hey guys... stumbled onto this site, and wanted to put my two cents in...
First, when trying to sync your phone to your computer, make sure all drivers are updated and make sure you have your phone synced FIRST. I had the same problems mentioned above with an LG VX8300, and that solved it for me.
Also... just because you have Windows XP with WMP 10 doesn't mean you'll be able to transfer. Make sure you have Service Pack 2 installed, because without the USB 2.0 drivers, you won't be able to transfer any music.
Also, on a side note. If the above methods still do not work, go out and invest twenty bucks in a 9-in-one-card reader if you don't already have one. They are backwards compatible with USB 1.1 so if you don't have SP2 you can still transfer your music via the micro SD card (which is what i do now. I also transfer my pix and flix to and from my computer, bypassing that crappy "my pix place")
hope i was of some help to you guys. drop me a line at the e-mail address above if you need any more help on this matter.
I have xp and service pack2. I have had trouble downloading the software. I put the cd in to install the V-cast music essentials and I get to the re-start my computer and then when it restarts I have a conflict on my D drive. It won't recognize it. It doesn't show up in "my computer". The drive stops working. I had to do a system restore to get my drive to work. What kind of conflict could I be having?
I have a RAZR V3m phone from Verizon. I purchased the music kit and tried to install it.
Every time I try to use it, I get a message saying "USB cable not installed" I have uninstalled the program and retried it.
Same message. It say's you must have Media player 10 to use it. I have Music player 11 installed. I tried to delete it and reinstall version 10. The computer will not let me do this.
Could this be the reason that i cannot install the Vcast kit? I would like any help you can give me.
Thank you
I have the VX8300 and the V Cast music kit. BUT the USB drive wont install because I have a newer version of WMP 10 and the USB drive disk wants to install WMP 10. so it just cancels the whole process saying "a more recent version is already running on this computer. The Proccess can not continue"
can anyone help me??????????????
All I want to do is download songs from my computer to my cell phone. I have no desire how to use Verizon VCast for my Motorola KZR1 cell phone. How can I do this? I have a USB cable but don't know what software I can use besides Verizons.
Thanks.
I also have the LG Chocolate and am also getting the same prob as schlomo and jen. I downgraded from WMP 11 to 10 which was easy and that worked. But when I try to sync the music the computer recognizes the USB driver but WMP does not. I try and sync through the phone and I get"Connect Failure, Please check your cable connection to the PC". So i figure "hey maybe my USB cable is broke that came with the essentials kit, wrong, I tried it with my girlfriends laptop and it worked fine, downloaded 10 songs and played them all. So I think hm Its got to be the USB drivers. I google it to hell and find on the Windows site that because of service pack 2 when upgraded from SP1 the drivers may not update, so of course i got into device manager and find every single file and try and upgrade. Once again nothing. I did stumble on soemthing though, when i had device manager open, and tried to sync music from the phone, the usb fromt he phone was recognized in "other devices" and shows up out of nowhere with a yellow "!" next to it meanign it needs to be upgraded. So I go to click on it but before i can i get the "Connect Failure, Please check your cable connection to the PC" error on the phone and then the tab in device manager magically disapeers. So I think ok, try it again, race against time, when the driver appears be ready to click it and update, and i do as so. I do the recommened option for updating it and at the end it says, cannot locate hardware driver, I open the cd drive to make sure im not crazy and to make sure that the install cd hardware is in there (which it is). Close it repeat and try and guide it to the CD and it dosnt give me the option. WTF!!! Right? I even spent 3 hours on the phone with the geniouses at Verizon V-cast sync tec support and they said they would send me an email to the windows site with help. The email never came. Two final questions and they are, why the hell would you market something if you dont know how to fix its problems and two if anyone has figured this out for the love of god tell me how. My AIM is "xirishtragedyx", email "irishtragedy@gmail.com", I dont care phone number "8562379002" lol, thanks.
Hey guys I also have windows media player 11 and the chocolate phone. I downloaded the new windows media player 11 beta 2 upgrade from beta 1 which I had. I then went and updated all my usb drivers in the device manager. I then jus reconnected the chocolate and it worked just a tip for anywhere out there
Well i have WMP 10 and could not sync any songs to my chocolate. I converted the files which were mp3 to WMP and they copy to the phone now. It still displays the error message on the top of the sync, but the files still make it to the phone.
Hey Huskyqb, did you ever get a error on the phone itself that said ti could sync with your computer?
im having this problem with my phone where i go to open up v cast music or play the songs i've purchased, not downloaded, and my whole phone will turn off, then back on, all automatically. its really frustrating me. does n e one have n e suggestions on what to do? i dont know why it's doing this.
thanks!=]
I also get errors, i don't condone getting songs from the web, but i am broke and need songs. I am currently trying to use realplayer to transfer songs to device then use them. But, it's my opinion so far the best way that i figured out, is to take all your mp3 transfer them to wma and put into my_music file and then make sure the bit rate is not larger than 128 and update those usb device drivers. But, if i come up with another way or easier, I will keep you posted.
when i first got the chocolate and installed the drivers using the cd-rom that came along it worked instantly...i tried to use it the other day (i hadn't used the cable or software in over a month) and it suddenly doesn't work anymore..it can't detect my phone...after three days and nights trying to figure it out i gave up on windows media player and the cable...i had tried to use the san disk stuff they gave me and i could never get it to work b/c it always asked to format disk and when i hit yes it said it couldn't be formatted...well i figured it out last night..i had to update my the memory card controller in my device manager with the san disk in there and it updated it to recognize it..now i can just drag my mp3's to the my music folder no problem...i recommend this over the cable and wmp b/c it transfers so much faster!...just thought i'd let you guys know...hope this helps anyone who is having a problem
i just got a razr v3m and after four hours i finally got the thing to work.. but now i can only fit four songs.. and i have a memory card in there, but it won't let me move any songs to it... i'm not sure if they sold me a bad memory card .. anyone else have this problem?
Well i installed everything and then when i get to the part of putting my USB in the computer, It does not recognize anything. I am really pissed off because this is the third time i have bought software
Install the verizon software to sync
then follow the for the install of mtpfix.exe on the following page.
http://mark.cdmaforums.com/1-USBDriverV3M.htm
There are other options to try on that site as well
okay i just got the razr v3m last night along with the music essentials kit and the 256 mb micro sd card. i got through the first step on the software disc fine aka "intall motorola usb drivers." but when i go through step two aka "set up vcast music" it fails halfway through because i already have the program it wants to install (windows media player 10). aside from the fact that this is COMPLETELY ABSURD, i'm not even sure why the step is essential. i'm not going to use vcast, i just want to put music from my computer onto the phone. does anyone know how to get around this ridiculous error??
i have the Red chocolate phone and the music essentials kit but every time i try it it says it cant find it. during the downloading of Step 1 it says complete but it never makes it far enough to say the NEXT step part at the bottom, instead it just pops up saying installation complete.
Need help PLEASE i spent some serious cash on this stuff and im broke
I have a razr v3m and WMP 10 and a black usb cable, i just want to download music. what do i do? When i plug my phone in nothing happens, how do i download music? this is really bugging me!
I gave my wife a new LG Chocolate recently and am trying to Sync files from Media Player to the phone, with very limited success. In several attempts of syncing multiple files, only a few will transfer. For the ones thta did not, I get an error message saying "Windows Media Player cannot play the file..." The file plays fine. Anyone have any suggestions?
I'm having a problem trying to play videos on my LG9900. using a 9 in 1 card reader i put them (wmv) on the micro and put it back in the phone. it will recognize that they are there but it will not play them? any suggestions would be greatly appriciated!
Thanks
I have the LG Chocolate phone, here's how I got it to work. Install Microsoft ActiveSync (it's a required program under the WMP11 Download system requirements). It loads new drivers etc to the system. It allowed my laptop running XP Home SP2 and WMP 11 to recognize my phone and synced with no problems. As soon as I put the phone in Sync mode, the WMP saw it and was ready to load music. IF you want more than 12-15 songs, you'll have to get a memory card anyway. I don't care, I'm just happy it finally worked!
Sigh. Thanks so much for answering my cry for help, which I typed in Google as follows: "vcast lg vx8300 drivers windows does not detect" I still haven't gotten the thing to work, only just got off the phone with Verizon. I'm pretty sure the Verizon guy was reading from this site--we went through the solutions above almost verbatim. He finally finished up with "Well, I really can't help you." Moral of my story: when one receives an Xmas present, one should try to figure it out before the fifteen-day end-of-return period runs out. Don't most manufacturers offer a thirty-day tryout period, or am I dating myself?
I have the LG Chocolate as well, and when I try to sync a mp3 file with my phone, the WMP says it cannot be synced and/or the file 'might not be supported'. It looks like:
1) it HAS to come from a CD (which means I'll have to stop getting the music from website codes)
2) you MUST have WMP 10
3) It has to be in WMP format (or at least start out as a mp3)
4) I got ripped off for that stupid music essentials thing.
Actually, I have the LG White Chocolate and after installing Microsoft ActiveSync (which is required) - I can install music and sync using WMP 11 with no problems.
ActiveSync apparently installs the necessary drivers and links to the phone.
You might have to tell the phone to sync more than once until the computer has time to recognize it, but it works like a charm after the initial sync.
Is it possable with the music essentials kit to put the music on ur fone then somehow turn it into a ring tone?
That would be nice ...
i need help...im not good with computers or like anything but all i want to do is get the music from my computer to my v-cast...but my media doesnt pick up that the phone is pluged in. my computer does but my media doesnt. i have no clue what i did wrong so if anyone reads this please write back if you think you can help ...=)
ok if your having syn issuses with you phone, 1st you need a usb 2.0 if you don't have that theres a program called Bitpim that will let you pretty much do anything you want to your phone( good and bad if u screw arround too much) it easily lets you add mp3 fiels as ring tones and to transfer pics off your computer. so far thats one of the work arrounds i found. you just ahve to make sure that the drivers are installed and the phone shows up as a modem in your device manager.
http://www.bitpim.org/ note to all.. backup your phone's files to your computer before you go off randomly editing files.. i have an LG vx8300 with a firmware version of T83vzv03 i got frustrated with it and googled alot.. so far i found a forum site.. http://www.howardforums.com/forumdisplay.php?f=295 has some good info for newbies to tech junkies
Backup is always a good idea ...
I just bought the Razr V3m and I've been trying to get ringtones on it but havn't been able to. I know you can buy ringtones using the phone but I want to download my own music and use them as ringtones. Anyway, I bought the V Cast Music Essentials Kit for my phone. After HOURS and HOURS of working on it, it finally works. But, I have no need to play music on my phone, all I want to do is use the music I got from my computer as a ring tone. I've tried almost every option on my phone but i can't seem to set my V Cast music as a ring tone.
If it is possible can someone please tell me how to set V Cast music as a ringtone?

yes, i have the same question as Billy. i heard that you cant get full song downloads to be your ringtones, but...i was hoping that someone knows if i really can or not.
How about after almost 6 months since its release, VZW still cant support Vista, and when they do it will only be for a few phones? Meanwhile AT&T and Apple have shown them how its done? What a joke the VZW strategy (if you can call it that) even is around music......
whenever i search for somethin on Vcast it always says "server error." Can any one help me
How do i get the songs i downloaded from mt comp as a ringtone the guy at walmart said i'd figure iy out please help!!!! shpuld i buy that card? or whatever please help me out asap tahnks
Yep, error code:0x2004, for me too with VCAST. I'm going for the walmart suggestion at this point.
have a nokia 6315i. downloaded the usb driver and have windows media player 11. with vista. everytime i try to sync.. i get a message on my phone that the cable is not plugged in. the driver says its installed correctly... but nothing works. can anyone help me????
I bought the LG VX8300 & the music essentials kit. My OS is Windows XP Home edition w/ Service pack 2. I have the same problem as Brian. Windows reconizes the new hardware but when it reconizes the MTP device it says there was a problem with hardware installation & your hardware may not work correctly. At this point I feel I have tryed it all. Uninstalling & reinstalling the software. Updated all drivers.Had the phones software updated, tryed the MTPFIX.EXE Program. Spent hrs. on the phone with tech. support from verizion & microsoft. The only way I can put music on my phone is to convert my MP3's to WMA & transfer the files to my Micro SD card via card reader. If anyone has any other suggestion I would be greatfull. Thanks to all for the info.
I been having the V Cast essential kit for awhile now but everytime I connect it to my phone and computer its keeps saying no device found.. Why is that can somebody please help me?
I have the "V cast music essentials kit" and I have Windows Vista but it won't install It says The version of the operatingsystem does not support the USB Modem Drives.
I have tried every go around for this stupid proprietary software, bah... i have a bunch of downloaded music and my vcast musc works fine, but the mp3 tags are all screwed up. anyone know I've tried updating certain mp3 ID3 tags, but it doesn't seem to affect the way the vcast catagorizes them.
anyone know what mp3 tags the v cast music manager works off of (Id3 tags or what?)
I purchased the LG8550 dark cherry choclate phone and the music essentials kits. The amount of crap I have had to go through to try to get music that I have had on my pc forever to my phone is unbelievable. The disc that verizon sent me was just throwing me to their site with no explanation why, so i borrowed a friends disc. After of almost an hour of installing and dowloading crap from verizons site to update it I finally got the essentials manager up with my music from my WMP up. Everything was made into playlists and when i went to sync it, It sends me to verizons home page. Not explaining if i need to download any upgrades or anything. I haven't even had this phone 3 months and thank god I got it free with the "very two" plan because this is the biggest waste of my time. I am not ready to give up just yet, but if no one has any suggestion, seeing that i have written an email to verizon tech services with no reply, I will be forced to say f- it and buy and Ipod. thanks
HELLO,
I JUST GOT MY RAZOR VERIZON WIRELESS PHONE WITH 1.3 MP PLAYER AND I WANT TO HAVE MUSIC FROM MY COMPUTER TO MY PHONE FOR RINGTONES. HOW DO I DO THIS? LET ME KNOW.
THANKS,
CARLA H.
Yeah I am trying to upload songs from Itunes and using Limewire to crossload them to Itunes. I got the Musuc essentials kit earlier this year and actually got songs to upload to my phone (sync) from my sister's pc (xp) but now that I have a Vista system am unable to get the sync - tells me the cable is not connected which of course it is but the software doesn't recognize the cable with this setup. Yeah I tried all the usual troubleshooting(reinstall (clean), turn off anti-virus, safe-mode boot, trying it without installing software (just plug-in let windows detect new hardware, etc). No luck so I'll just copy the songs to the SD card that I use with the phone. Verizon lied to me - they said it was "all I need and works with XP/Vista". Even with XP it only synced after MANY attempts and yeah the same problem about the cable not being connected. I suppose I could try another cable but that means going back to the store and they will certainly charge me or it simply won't be available since it is part of the kit. Bastards. Vcast sux and the only reason I still have it is that I don't get megabyte charges that would normally be applied with the mobile internet on my phone. But now that I have a computer again I may say goodbye to that too. When my contract runs out next May I will think seriously about changing wireless provider.
I am trying to transfer music in my cell phone LG Versa from PC. I do have V cast software install, however when i log in to the software, is telling me to accept terms and condition? If i do that and use vcast software just sync the music( that i have saved in my pc) not bying any from Vcast? do i get still charge for it? If any one knows the answer, could you answer?
over the last year or so I had collected about 250 songs on my phone from v-cast and when my phone would no longer charge I took it to Verizon ( in La Habra, Ca.) they insited they would keep my phone & chip until my new phone was sent to my house then I was to bring the new phone in and they would transfer everything to the new phone. Instead they got rid of my phone & chip and sent me to that nightmare v-cast to retrieve my music back. well after more than 10 hours of trying my computer shut down countless times and even went " blue screen" before it crashed. v-cast is a cancer stay away
