Packet8 Problem?

I'm hearing from a source that several Packet8 users have been experiencing dropped calls, no dial tone, garbled calls, and distorted echoes over the past few days.

Did Packet8 change something on their network?

So far, the one thing in common is that all of these Packet8 users use Comcast. Maybe it's some sort of routing issue between Comcast and Packet8.

Either that, or the news release about Packet8's financial statement caused a surge in traffic to Packet8 resulting in limited bandwidth available.

I'll see what I can find out...

e911 on Packet8 requires a virtual number at $4.95/mo if you requested LNP to keep your original number and your original number does not begin with the proper 6 digit area code and exchange.

I have been trying to get e911 for months there. They loose emails, give me conflicting procedures to follow and don't perform as promised in writing. You can't even talk to an e911 specialist. E911 is another $1.50/mo bringing e911 service to $6.45 + tax.

In addition, they have recently added a "Regulatory Recovery Fee" of $1.50/mo per DID as a separate item. This is an additional Packet8 fee which just increases their base service charges. It is NOT a new government regulatory fee.

In response to Rhalford. I noticed that new fee last month, and emailed a few times. I never got a response. I also emailed about the 911 thing about changing/adding a number to be able to use it. I finally got a response to that ( http://voip-blog.com/2005/06/22/packet8-requires-number-change-to-activate-e911/ ), but it took a while.

I'm starting to get a bad taste for their customer service, as well as some of their mysterious and inconvenient practices.

I would change providers, if there was only anyone that offered everything I need. Packet8 is the *only* provider I've seen that has numbers in my rate center.

Hello World,
I am packet8 user, I had problem with local call service. I took them a month cannot fix. (They "F" up). After I cancel first day the month of june 2005, They charge me whole month and over charge ($30). If you read this PLEASE LET THE WORLD KNOWN DONOT USE THE "PACKET8" THEY ARE "SUCK". SORRY MY WORD.

Iam using Lingo service now. I think I like them.

I actually have AT&T DSL biz line and since I signed up with Packet8 Two and half months ago I have been getting a lot of dropped calls also. DSL service was down one day in February But my line was still active since it doesnt take that much Bandwith, but been a Busines Owner its a Hassle when you rely on the phone for your Business and Calls keep getting dropped, or you answer and you cant hear anybody on the other side.
Has anyone been Experiencing this type of Problems for longer than 6 Months? Has anyone gotten any response on how to fix this?

PACKET8 has put us into phone hell also. Ever since we switched to Packet8 2 months ago, our calls are not coming through and the voice quality is horrible! The other day I called our office from an offsite location ten times and only got through once! And when the phone was answered, it sounded like the receptionist was underwater.

Calling Packet8 customer service is another joke. You get a person who represents himself as "Manager of Customer Escalation" who agrees you are experiencing dire problems and promises you immediate attention and informs you that they have identified the problem and that it will be rectified within 5-7 days. As the 7 day deadline approaches, you are suddenly contacted by a different Customer Escalation Representative who tells you all about the same problem once again, and they are going to correct it in 5-7 days, which now strings you out another week past the first date they promised you. At some point a reasonable person realizes there is no end in site and that Packet8 is just stringing you along. PACKET8 IS A NIGHTMARE

Been with Packet 8 for seven years with comcast Hi speed. Witched to FIOS Packet 8 no longer works. Spent 2 days on phone with 8X8 guys to no avail. They cannot make it work with FIOS. Any one else out there in same boat? We've added DMZ host, Port forwarding, lowering firewall.....nothing works. I'm using ActionTec wireless router modem combo MI1424-WR.
Am I forced to Verizon VOIP service to make calls?

We have had Packet 8 for 2-1/2 yrs with Verizon Fios the entire time. We have had 'cell phone reliability' service - at best - most of that time but over recent months fewer of our calls are received. It rings on my end but it doesn't ring at home. It just goes to voicemail after ringing the six rings I have it set to.

I hate Verizon's phone services. I'm not even impressed with their cell phone service now that I've been back with them for a year. They have the worst, most overbearing, and unwieldy, automated customer service phone system I have ever seen.

I think Verizon intentionally tries to screw with other VoIP systems other than theirs but it's just a suspicion on my part.

I am sure you have solved this by now but my bet is your router if it's before your P8 base station. But Verizon FiOS should work with P8. It has for me -pretty much- for 2-1/2 yrs.

My wife is now demanding that I replace the service. Any recommendations?

I used Packet8 with TimeWarner formerly Adelphia for a few years.... everything worked fine. Now that I've switched over to FIOS, I have big problems. P8 tech support was a joke... level 1 questions, didn't solve the problem. My phone seems to work for numbers that are geographically close to my location. The farther away they are located the more unlikely they work. I'm in the LA Area BTW. My biggest gripe is that 800 numbers fail to work at all. I work out of my house and spend a lot of time on conference calls. If I have a non-800 number close to me, the call usually goes through. Any 800, 888, 877, etc. number goes into hell somehow. The line1 light will blink about 4 seconds after placing the call and continue to blink for up to a couple of minutes. At some point the call fails and I hear a busy signal. My experience with P8 over FIOS is horrible... Even though I hated TimeWarner, (and still do) I had pretty good luck with P8 over a slow cable connection. I wonder if Verizon is deliberately blocking access... never the less, I don't have the time and effort to debug P8's system on my dime. Even though I probably have more technical expertise than 95% of their folks, I refuse to do their job for them and have decided to switch to another vendor... With my busy job, I don't have time for their crappy products and crappy customer service. FY P8!

I have been having the same problems over the past week with Packet8: dropped calls, no dial tone, garbled calls & distorted echos.

Of course, Packet8 sends me a number of emails to chek my equipment, etc.

No problem on my end.

I forgot to mention on my previous comment that I use Road Runner.
