Skype for Windows 8 Launches Simultaneously with Windows 8 & Microsoft Surface

I predicted back in August, "I wouldn't be surprised though if this [Skype for Windows 8] simultaneously launches the same day as the Windows 8 Surface tablet - it certainly would be one of the first apps I'd try out on the new tablet. smiley-laughing"

Well, looks like I was right. Microsoft is releasing Skype for Windows 8 on the same date that Windows 8 and the Microsoft Surface tablet launches. I gave an early preview of the Skype for Windows app, which you can check out.

Looking at Microsoft's promotional video (below) it appears to show a later, more refined version than the beta I checked out. I see it will support Skype notifications (IMs) that pop in the top-right corner of the screen no matter which app you are running. This could be a videogame killer since it obscures part of the screen, which might result in your untimely death or loss in the game - so hopefully the app will allow you to easily silence the popups or have an exclusion list of some sort.

It's worth mentioning in my testing of the beta that it supports docking, so in this screenshot you can see Bing Weather docked to the left of the Skype for Windows 8 app:

Otherwise, the Skype for Windows 8 (Metro-style) app looks pretty similar to what I tested. Here's the Microsoft promo video:
