Smell-O-Vision

Now how about this one!

According to news from Yahoo! and the Associated Press, we now have a made-in-Japan device that records and reproduces smells!

That's right! Smell-O-Vision!

But seriously, folks, the Tokyo Institute of Technology's odor recorder can apparently analyze aromas and scents using 15 sensor chips.

(Institute is pictured -- within these hallowed halls ...)

But that's not all! It can then convert them into digital files that can later be reproduced by mixing 96 chemicals and vaporizing the result.

Some day we may have a gadget that can transmit smells digitally.  (But not for those of us who are nasally challenged ...)

Makes me think: Holy cow Batman!

That's pretty cool, but for those of us with small children and/or pets I can see this causing some confusion. I'm picturing the kids leaving the smell-o-vision on and I walk past the room never being sure if the smell is a show that was on or something that was stuck under the sofa...

Didn't think of that ...

Imagine coming home to the smell of slowly cooked roast dinner only to find out the wifes watching a cooking show!

I hear there are a few devices on the market now, not for the TV but the computer. Trisenx have one, mind you its a bit pricey; $349!
