Rich blogged late yesterday about TMC's Quantcast statistics which showed TMC's domination in the IP communications space. We already knew from our Alexa stats that we dominated the space, but Alexa isn't very accurate. So we recently added Quantcast to all our web servers, including our blogs. As Rich points out, Quantcast is considered a respected third-party in measuring web traffic in an accurate manner.
He writes:
He then gives an industry-wide breakdown of U.S. Reach (unique visitors) of various companies in the IP communications space (VoIP, video, IPTV, etc.). The chart is absolutely shocking considering there are many good quality news outlets in this list that I sometimes visit.
US Reach = how many people visit the site in a month.
I knew TMCnet does well traffic-wise, but I had no idea (as Rich pointed out) that TMCnet actually has more traffic than all other competitive sites combined. Wow!
Just as amazing, according to Quancast, the blogs (blog.tmcnet.com) get around 20% of TMC's entire web traffic even though the blogs have 1/10000th the number of pages the www.tmcnet.com domain has. This truly shows the power of blogs and how blogs can bring good quality traffic that often stay on the blog and peruse other pages thereby increasing the "stickiness" of the site, i.e. higher page views per visitor.
He writes:
I am proud to say that Quantcast says the US reach for TMCnet is 711,127 people – this roughly translates to just under 2 million visitors in total as TMCnet has about 60% of its visitors from outside the US. (711,127/0.4=1.77 million visitors)

Ah...this only means 1 thing...that TMC is more popular than all of them combined. Another good news I guess but those figures are astonishing really.
I don't have a calculator with me but by doing a quick addition, it looks like the others are just about 1/4 of TMC's total traffic.
Clap clap clap.
