TANDBERG PrecisionHD USB Camera Sports 720p HD Video

tandberg-precisionhd-usb-camera.jpgTANDBERG's new PrecisionHD USB Camera is the first webcam to offer HD video at 720p with 30 frames per second. It is optimized for Microsoft Office Communications Server 2007 Release 2 providing business-quality HD video communication. It also includes a built-in noise canceling microphone and automatic focus.

The webcam can be hooked onto a laptop (as shown above), making this an excellent mobile videoconferencing choice. It's worth noting that OCS 2007 R2 not only supports HD720p (1280x720 1.5Mbps), but it also now supports an "unlimited" video bitrate setting as seen here:

Now we just need someone to build a 1080p webcam! Of course, the bandwidth required for that might be too much to be practical.

Thanks for the post Tom. The PrecisionHD USB Camera used with TANDBERG's Movi will provide the best personl video experience possible. We'll be demoing the experience at VoiceCon in Orlando, March 30-April 2 for anyone who is interested.

Cheers!

Is it going to be really 720p or is it a static blocking affair like in the tandberg HD systems? The camera looks nice though. It looks a little like the LifeSize Focus camera.

Unlimited bandwidth is very scary if you work in a corporate environment even if you have QoS. The successful webcam will be able to be locked down by an admin to a specific bandwidth with no chance of the end user being able to change that.

Even better, being able to singly or centrally change the bandwidth of each or all of the Tandberg HD webcams remotely through a thin client remotely. That would be wonderful and very scaleable.

Look at the decision:

Great webcam video vs. network does not crash and companies stay in business.. Hmm that's a hard one!

Bjorn,

The TANDBERG PrecisionHD USB Camera delivers 720p30 in MJPEG format to the computer - and it's up to the client/encoder on how they transmit the stream to far end.

(And TANDBERG Movi doesn't use the static macro block technique)

Nice camera. Its amazing how they can get 720P in that small size camera.

it is scary to have an unlimited bandwidth working with a corporate environment but you may used it freely when you have an AV in your own pc.
