tandberg-precisionhd-usb-camera2.jpgTANDBERG announced that their PrecisionHD™ USB camera is now shipping. The PrecisionHD™ USB camera is the first webcam to offer 720p high definition with 30 frames per second and is interoperable with Microsoft OCS.

The camera does not require additional drivers or software installations to operate the camera which is always nice - just plug and play.

I wonder how this HD camera compares with the HD-capable Microsoft LifeCam Cinema which is supposed to be coming out soon?

Below is a pic of the Microsoft LifeCam Cinema HD camera:

Here is a summary of the comparison between both webcams we did using OCS R2.

I just heard about some HD webcams from Agama that look like they may blow the competition out of the water. Only $70 bucks and they have all these features, plus they look pretty cool too www.agamazone.com. One of them even has night vision. I'm getting one as a stuffing stocker for my kid.

The Agama HD camera can do 720p, but can only achieve 9fps max. You need much higher frame-rates to make HD video reasonable.

The MS camera above does not support high frame-rates either. They advertise 30fps, but that does NOT show up as a device capability when you query the device. I don't know how they get by with these claims.

The Tandberg does work as advertized.
