Satellite VoIP service

So you wanna setup an IP-PBX phone system in Antartica and use VoIP to terminate calls, do ya? What's that you say? You don't think you can get broadband Internet access in Antartica to deliver the VoIP packets? No worries - with satellite broadband, you can setup an IP-PBX in the most distant, remote place on the planet. Check out this partnership between Talkswitch (one of my favorite SMB IP-PBX products) and RAMTelecom, a satellite service provider.

TalkSwitch and RAMTelecom Team to Deliver Integrated Satellite-based VoIP to Remote Businesses

Businesses in remote locations benefit from on-site PBX functionality and satellite connectivity

OTTAWA, ON – October 5, 2005 – TalkSwitch, a company specializing in the design and manufacture of innovative telephone systems for small and multi-location businesses, today announced that it has teamed with RAMTelecom to provide a fully-featured, satellite-based VoIP solution to businesses in remote locations.

Remote businesses, like mining operations, have struggled to find ways to keep connected to the outside world while keeping communications costs reasonable. TalkSwitch and RAMTelecom have teamed up to provide that solution. Customer’s deploying RAMTelecom’s satellite-based telecommunications service can now integrate a TalkSwitch IP PBX as part of their solution. The TalkSwitch gives the customer advanced call handling and control capabilities, and it gives it to them at the jobsite, meaning they don’t have to incur expensive long distance charges for routine tasks like checking voicemail.

“Businesses in remote locations are faced with a host of unique communications challenges,” said Jan Scheeren, President and CEO, TalkSwitch. “By integrating a TalkSwitch IP PBX with the satellite services provided by RAMTelecom, customers can take control of their telecommunications costs. Having all of their telephony features on-site, especially voicemail can literally offer thousands of dollars in savings. We’re pleased to work with a company like RAMTelecom to make this a reality.”

The companies have successfully completed their first field deployment, providing a solution to Canadian Royalties, a Quebec-based mining exploration company with an advanced nickel project in remote northern Quebec.

“The RAMTelecom/TalkSwitch solution has allowed us to improve supply chain management and reduce transportation costs, two key elements in our business. In remote operations such as ours, reliable and effective communications, such as three digit dialing between camp locations and storing voicemail locally is easily translated into significant cost savings,” said Glen Schlyter, Business and Technology Consultant, Canadian Royalties. “Since implementing this solution we’ve reduced our monthly communications expenses by over 50 per cent, while greatly improving communications for our employees and contractors.”

“The TalkSwitch was easily integrated into our overall solution and has provided our end customer all the benefits they had hoped for,” stated Ralph Misener, President and CEO, RAMTelecom. “The team from TalkSwitch has been excellent to work with. The TalkSwitch PBX is easy to install, configure and manage, all very important when deploying in a remote location.”

Telecommunications solutions from TalkSwitch are ideal for small and multi-location businesses with up to 32 telephone users per office. Each TalkSwitch telephone system comes loaded with a host of features including multi-level auto attendants, call cascade options, voicemail and much more. TalkSwitch systems are available with traditional telephone network connections or with combined traditional and VoIP network connections. VoIP capabilities can be added later to the traditional systems.

TalkSwitch systems start as low as $695 USD and are available from TalkSwitch Authorized Resellers or online at www.talkswitch.com. The VoIP-enabled TalkSwitch 48-CVA is available for $1795 USD.
