Western Digital WD Elements 2 TB External Hard Drive

December 6, 2010

I was looking to buy a new cheap 2 TB (terabyte) external hard drive on Black Friday to try and get the best deal. Target had a special on the Western Digital WD Elements 2 TB USB 2.0 Desktop external hard drive (model - WDBAAU0020HBK-NESN) for just $69.00! A sweet deal for 2TB! However, when I went to pick one up they were gone and a Target employee told me they sold out in less than 15 minutes.

Doodle-Track Car Fun!

December 6, 2010

Every kid remembers playing with race cars with click-together race car tracks. But these race car tracks were typically boring oval or figure 8s with no hairpin turns or S curves. Well imagine you could design your own track using the Doodle Track kit to create the ultimate racing toy set.

Simply using a marker you draw the track and the race car will follow it automatically.

Social CRM Expo Expands at ITEXPO

December 3, 2010

Some TMC news worth sharing involving ITEXPO co-located with Social CRM Expo and which is just a short 2 months away. With the holidays approaching, it'll probably go by even quicker, so make sure to reserve a hotel room now before they all book up! Not to mention February in Miami? You know Miami is popular in the winter.

Viber - Another VoIP Mobile App Launches on iPhone

December 2, 2010

Viber, a mobile VoIP app for the iPhone launched today. There are plenty of mobile VoIP apps for the iPhone, but each has its weakness, including Skype, which is a battery hog. Viber's claim to fame is that it doesn't use buddy lists or require registration. Instead, your phone number is your username.

November 30, 2010

CounterPath has upgraded a number of features on its Bria iPhone Edition client.  (check out my previous demo of the Bria for iPhone client) Some of the top new features include:

Bria iPhone Edition offers enterprise and SMB users full access to their PBX features, with G.711, G.722 and an optional G.729 codec. A larger announcement from CounterPath is expected tomorrow. I'm out of the office recovering from nose surgery from a broken nose, but I'll try and cover the news when I can.

Major AT&T Outage

November 29, 2010

There appears to be a regional and perhaps nationwide outage of AT&T services. Several co-workers have reported that their Apple iPhones cannot make phone calls or receive texts.

I tested my iPhone and sent some text messages that took over 5 minutes to be received - much longer than usual. According to Twitter, both AT&T and Sprint are experiencing a nationwide outage. Could Cyber Monday be affecting AT&T's & Sprint's network?

911 Joins the 21st Century - To Add SMS & Video

November 23, 2010

We all remember the controversy surrounding VoIP & 911. Should they be required to provide 911, shouldn't they? Should PC VoIP apps like Skype be exempt since these are mobile VoIP apps? Back in 2007, Congress passed legislation requiring Internet telephony service providers to provide e911 services.

Senao SN 358 Skype - Long Range Cordless Phone Reaches 15 km

November 22, 2010

A few months ago I came across a multi-handset Skype cordless phone product that claimed their phone system worked up to 10km from the wireless base unit. "Great Scott! A cordless phone that works up to 10km," I thought to myself. It supports both Skype and PSTN.

Use Skype to Video Call Any Video Endpoint: Polycom, Cisco, Tandberg, etc.

November 22, 2010

Christian Bongiovanni, co-CEO and CTO for Imagicle gave me a demo of SkyStone Video, which enables video conferencing everywhere to any video endpoint. Using SkyStone Video you can call any video endpoint using Skype, including Cisco/Tandberg, Lifesize, Polycom, Radvision, Sony, and others, enabling you to call video phones, video conferencing systems, and telepresence solutions. Guess this means the VoIP Videphone War is over!

To do the demo I simply went to their website and clicked this button (Note: you can do this too):

If you hover your mouse over the button above you'll see it's a Skype link.
