The Myth of US Green Jobs

November 17, 2010 4:20 AM
When you have no business experience and are great at speaking you can say things like we will solve our jobs crisis with green jobs. And people will listen and even elect you President. Unfortunately, anyone who has ever looked at the labels on the products they buy know the cheapest place to make anything is in China and there is no way to easily change this fact - regardless of what you manufacture and regardless of how large the subsidy.

See the details of a California-based solar company which was forced to close a plant due to competition from China - this regardless of the fact that there were $1.5B of subsidies and loan guarantees the company enjoyed.

We do believe that green breakthroughs can and will continue to be made in the US - but similar to what we see with Apple - every one US job will coincide with 10 or so in China.

This is exactly why we disagree 100% with the President who is looking to raise taxes on small businesses - we believe you should not only keep the taxes low on these entrepreneurs but lower them from where they are today. Of course the President has very few green jobs to show for all the spending which has been done on stimulus and the like - but don't expect him to admit he is wrong about his job-creating strategy - ever.

Hope + Change = Bankruptcy Filings up 11%

November 16, 2010 9:47 AM
The hope and change over a million people got this year was bankruptcy - and while Rome burned, President Obama and Queen Pelosi fiddled with healthcare. All the while, 11% more people went bankrupt this year over last. The good news is if these poor people can survive, living on the streets for the next few years, they will be able to have a government-paid trip to the doctor.

Might we suggest that next time we shouldn't be swayed to vote based on a one-word campaign sign or bumper sticker but instead find candidates who have some real-world experience fixing problems and can do more than read a teleprompter with enthusiasm.

Just What is Quantitative Easing?

November 15, 2010 9:30 AM
What is quantitative easing and why do we need it? This simple cartoon explains it all. You want to be seated before viewing this.

Last night we wrote about how the White House and Democrats in general are purposely pursuing policies which will kill jobs by raising taxes on small business owners. Congressman Paul Ryan explains on CNBC that not only are the Democrats raising taxes on job creators, they are being very nuanced with the facts  - inaccurately explaining that the tax increases will not kill jobs.

You see Democrats will tell you that only 2% of filers are affected by the tax increases - but what they don't say is it is half the income of small business will be hit with this tax increase! You see, the way the tax rules are set up, if you sell something on eBay and report it, you are considered a small business. That is why this argument is so divisive and why many on the left are able to twist the facts to their advanatage - knowing full well, they will be killing US jobs by raising taxes on small business owners.

While we attributed what the Democrats are doing to purposely killing jobs to increase government dependency - since government dependents generally vote Democrat. Congressman Ryan takes a slightly different view when saying, "Class warfare is effective politics because it prays into the emotions of fear and envy, but its really bad economics."

During the healtchcare debate where the White House said they would be trying to work with Republicans, Congressman Ryan explained to President Obama that the American people don't want Obamacare in its present form and he went on to say that Obama was not listening to the people. Doug Schoen and Patrick Caddell at the Washington Post - explain why Obama should not run in 2012 and instead focus on the problems of the country and getting them solved. The article points to his own statement: "I'd rather be a really good one-term president than a mediocre two-term president," and explains that he now has the chance to deliver on that idea by not focusing on the polarizing politics of reelection but instead on getting the economy going again.

There are some solid points in the piece, including:

Obama can restore the promise of the election by forging a government of national unity, welcoming business leaders, Republicans and independents into the fold. But if he is to bring Democrats and Republicans together, the president cannot be seen as an advocate of a particular party, but as somebody who stands above politics, seeking to forge consensus. And yes, the United States will need nothing short of consensus if we are to reduce the deficit and get spending under control, to name but one issue.

If Obamacare is so good then why are there 111 waivers granted and why is this information being hidden from the public? Moreover, why is it only the large companies and unions getting these waivers while medium and small businesses are stuck with it?

Perhaps we should rename it Disastercare?

Here are some groups getting waivers:

  • Cigna
  • Local 802 Musicians Health Fund
  • Star Tek
  • Regis Corporation
  • Carlson Restaurants
  • Jack in The Box
  • Cracker Barrel
  • Aetna

How NOT to Compete with India and China

November 14, 2010 10:27 AM
Whether you are on the left or right - the one thing we can all agree upon is that when people are given enough to make them comfortable - they quite often become less interested in working and producing. Most people work to generate income - take care of their family and their health, etc.

The more they receive without working - the less requirement there is to be productive.

Austin Hill details the fact that fewer Americans want to work - in part because of Obamacare - and this should scare the heck out of all of us. Not because "free" healthcare is evil but because an nation which is given increasing incentives to not work will get its clock cleaned by countries where the work ethic is greater.

We believe that if the US is to compete with developing countries - we need to explore what they do and we don't. In other words, what makes the US uncompetitive? Continue Reading...

Bush Caught Lifting Quotes for Book

November 12, 2010 10:13 PM
The Huffington Post points out that George Bush lifted quotes for his book from others. Surprisingly the Huffington Post picked up on this nuance but has yet to report that President Obama lifted his entire economic policy from Karl Marx.

Then again when things are so obvious, are they really news?

The Catastrophe That is ObamaCare

November 9, 2010 8:15 PM
A Global benefits expert tells us what US citizens already surmised - ObamaCare is riddled with unintended consequences - like virtually everything the government does and will hurt business and the people it is supposed to help. The diagram (PDF) below outlines how it works - a bureaucratic nightmare and this article gives you more details.

This monstrosity can't be repealed and/or defunded soon enough.
