Senate Vote Retains Protections For Eavesdropping Telcos; Obama, McCain Split Vote
Earlier today the U.S. Senate defeated an Amendment to strike the provisions providing immunity from civil liability to electronic communication service providers for certain assistance provided to the Government.
As shown in that screencap from the U.S. Senate's website, today's vote was 31 for the Amendment, 67 against, with two Senators- including Democratic Presidential candidate Hillary Clinton, not voting.
The two other Presidential candidates in the Senate split their vote. Democrat Barack Obama voted for the Amendment and Republican John McCain voted against it.
