The business market for VoIP products and services is on fire as evidenced by new research that states the market will be $18 billion dollars in 2010. As this market continues to grow an ecosystem of software solutions, telephones and other "middleware" will spring up around VoIP solutions making business users even more productive. When everything moves to IP you are finally able to do so many things better than ever before.

Once this does happen, hardware and especially software vendors are going to have a field day making us more productive and efficient. Developing new telecom solutions in software will unleash an explosion of business productivity as a slew of new programmers worldwide will be able to create applications we all can use. Just look at the vibrant Asterisk IP PBX developer community today.
