There are some titles that some believed would never come out. For a long time, Duke Nukem Forever was one. Half-Life 3 was another, and perhaps one of the most poignant such entries was The Last Guardian. But new reports suggest that E3 2015 might be home to a particular surprise for those looking forward to the arrival of The Last Guardian.
The current reports come from The Guardian--oddly appropriate, that--who said that, on "very good authority", this was the year Team Ico brought out The Last Guardian. This, needless to say, sparked a firestorm of anticipation and cynicism as some dared to dream of the title's release, and others adamantly refused to dare. This is a game that's been occupying its own ring of development hell since 2007, so hearing about this one coming out now, eight years later, suggests that this might be in the works after all.
Of course, something like this did make an appearance once before back in 2009, so it's not like it's been complete vaporware. But this is the first time we've heard of this title making an appearance in over half a decade, so that's really splitting the field.
Reports suggest that this E3 will already be crammed with exciting news from Fallout 4 to Mass Effect 4 and beyond, so the surprise resurgence of The Last Guardian certainly isn't out of line. It would be just one of some seriously substantial news items out there, but it would still be a big fish even in a pond this big.
So will this be the year that The Last Guardian makes its surprise reappearance? It's entirely possible. We may see a completely developed version of the 2009 game that showed up at E3 at that time. We may see something completely unrelated. Nothing will tell on that front but the next E3, and considering that that's just a few days away, well...who knows what we'll see?
