What's Coming to PlayStation Experience 2015?

With some major game releases to come, it would be easy to forget that there's a major new show from Sony coming soon. It would be easy, but it would also be a bad idea. Because while there's a lot coming out between now and December, there's also a major event facing us at the PlayStation Experience.

The PlayStation Experience got some early word out of the PlayStation Blog, revealing there will be 49 games playable at the event in question. That's big enough, but the developer list is likewise impressive; Sony will be on hand, as will its various studios, including Naughty Dog, Santa Monica Studios and Media Molecule. Bungie, Capcom and EA will also be in play, and that's just for starters.

The show is set to run December 5 and 6 at San Francisco's Moscone Center, with two-day passes going for $75.

It's worth noting that some of the biggest names don't seem all that prevalent; major names like "No Man's Sky," "Horizon: Zero Down" and "Uncharted 4: A Thief's End" have yet to be officially confirmed. But by like token, Sony notes that the list of titles announced are just "some" of the titles on hand, which allows for the possibility of surprises on hand for later or official confirmation closer to the show itself.

This is a good move for Sony, as we all know Sony's holiday 2015 are a bit on the light side. Drawing attention to that which is on hand, meanwhile, might help draw attention away from the lack to focus on what will be on hand later. Sony's got the upper hand right now in console sales; it can ill afford to lose that edge thanks to a perceived lack of games. It did bad things to Nintendo's console, and it can do likewise bad things to Sony's too, particularly if it wants a shot at being top of next generation's heap as well.

Still, there's a lot coming out from Sony in the near future, and the PlayStation Experience 2015 show suggests quite a few titles coming up. That's a development Sony could really use right now, and one that Sony will have to build on to really take the day.
