Modular PC Looks Great for the Mobile Pro

January 4, 2005

We've been getting a lot of news from the Consumer Electronics Show going on this week in Las Vegas. One of the interesting news items from today is:

MCC Computer Company Announces the Release of the Modular PC at CES, Vegas

The core of the Modular PC system is small CPU only 3"x5"x3/4", weighing approximately 9.1 ounces -- that's the size of a 3x5 index card and not much more than half a pound! The standard unit comes with a 20 GB hard drive, with a 30 GB also available.

The CPU is made to plug into a laptop shell, into a handheld/tablet shell or into a docking station that connects with your keyboard and monitor to turn it into a desktop unit.

Prices of the key pieces are:

Modular PC CPU with 20 GB drive: $1990
Micro Tablet Shell: $990
Laptop Shell: $800
Docking Station: $190

The modular PC is sold by MCC Computer Company, whose incredibly clunky Web site is at:

As a user who travels and shuttles a lot, and who likes to be able to move around the house with a computer, this idea is appealing to me. I'm a little worried about the reliability and sustainability of the company, given their poor Web presence. If their marketing efforts come across as an after-thought, will they still be around in the future to support their product?

Well, at least they have the smarts to be in Vegas this week!

    Hello,

Just wanted to let you know that we have a new web site and also new products. I'm the webmaster who first saw that it was not only clukny, it was a horrible web site so I tried and improved it. Hope you like it.

MCC is still here and very much alive. It's list of customers is growing.

One of our best features is that for such a high price you don't just get technology, you get the possibility of embedding your own technology with ours, which is what MCC specializes mosltly.
We are known for our customizations and working closley with the customer, not just sell technology, FYI.

We have a new integrated handheld with an Intel Pentiunm (r) chip, 1.2 GHz, 512 MB SDRAM, 32 MB 2D, 3D video and 3x USB 2.0 ports and xga external connector.

We look forward for your opinions and feedback!
