Getting a Network Ready for VoIP

January 14, 2005

As a writer and editor covering the VoIP space, I get a large number of interesting communications from media relations people and various experts in companies that work in this market space.

Today, a notice came across from Steven M. Plavny, Analyst & Media Relations at Telchemy, announcing a new report they've come out with about network readiness. Thought I would share the message and the link to the new tech paper:

Deploying new technologies on an enterprise network is always a challenge --
balancing cost versus benefits and integrating them with the existing the
infrastructure. And Voice over IP is no exception. Deploying VoIP service
provides cost savings and end user benefits, but deployment itself can cause
many call quality and network related headaches if not planned and
implemented properly.

In order to help enterprise network planners and administrators successfully
deploy VoIP, Telchemy, Incorporated has developed a much requested "Tech
Note: Six Steps To Getting Your Network Ready For Voice over IP." You can
access it at www.telchemy.com/appnotes/TechNoteSixStepVoIP.pdf .

The document provides a six step methodology, including pre-deployment
testing and network readiness assessment for use when preparing an existing
network for VoIP service. It also contains useful problem descriptions and
related information to help alleviate or significantly reduce call quality and
network performance problems both during and after deployment.
