We all love LTE – we love the speed, we love the easy on-ramp to the internet, and we love the quality of video it enables to mobile devices of all sorts.  But voice with LTE – many of us haven’t yet been given the chance to experience.  They are destined to be together – voice in LTE is a type of data, and the mobile service providers will need to reduce expenses and retire the old 3G networks (which can be used for voice), in favor of a single network.  The LTE Voice Summit next week in London explores these issues.

Dialogic will be there and will be participating on a panel on October 12 titled “VoLTE, ViLTE and RCS as new revenue streams for communications.”  I’ve recently finished a series of blogs about Value-Added Service with VoLTE, so it’s no surprise that we’ll also be talking about additional value-added services that can be created for basic VoLTE/RCS services such as voice/video calling.  Value-added services such as conferencing and call recording will be required, and will be excellent sources of revenue streams for service providers. 

I’m also convinced the voice-centricity of services will change as VoLTE gets deployed.  Value-added services of all sorts will come to the fore with voice as a part of the service, and not the core function of the service.  For instance, in a data world we may be instant messaging or chatting with someone (using emoji’s and videos and all that) but someone may go “Hey, this can go faster, or be more enjoyable if I just have a conversation,” so clicking that call button might happen.  Or some kind of IoT analytics application will do its thing and analyze the data, and if the data comes out in some kind of red zone, pop up some call button as well.  Anyway, all kinds of cool apps will occur where voice is part of the app, but not necessarily required.
