Dear America,
You were a democracy once – once upon a time, in a fairy land, where Thomas Jefferson and George Washington rode unicorns through gumdrop forests. It was a mythical place where every man had his land and a right to defend it; where practicality came before morality; where citizenship was a privilege and a right; where political correctness did not slither on ahead before rational thought.
Now I feel like we’re at an empty movie set where democracy used to live – but had to move out, because of the bad economy.
America’s representatives, stop putting your hands down our pants – and re-read the Constitution.
What you’re doing is unethical. It’s demoralizing. And it’s a testament to the corruption of our government.
Regards,
Your Bewildered Citizens
You can only sacrifice so many civil liberties in the name of security, technology and the future.
The fact is that there are innumerous countries out there that could obliterate any number of our cities with the touch of a button. But to live our lives in fear of the unknown – to cripple ourselves by that same fear – is more abominable than any disaster could ever hope to be.
Lady Liberty, you used to be so beautiful. Sure you were a little green, a little too oxidized -- but you were proud and pure. Since when do you investigate your citizens for refusing to let you touch their private parts? Since when did you feel like you had the right to put your hands down our pants?
You tell us your fancy scanning machines represent safety. Security. They’re safe, you tell us. They’re procedural, you say. You dare parrot that at us that even as the body scans are being leaked online. Perhaps it’s because some poor fools still believe you. Trust you.
I’d like to know when this mess is going to get fixed. I’m still listening for the outcry of all outcries.
When will we get back to the way it used to be, America? I’ve got my odd hand on the wheel and I’m trying to find my way there.
