Microsoft and Action Engine Corporation

Microsoft certainly is strongly pushing their mobile/wireless phone technology. Once they get Microsoft Live Communications Server's (LCS) feature-set to the point where people actually use it, and then they offer the client on mobile phones, things could get interesting. LCS leverages presence, VoIP, and the ability to communicate with PBXs (using Genesys's technology). This news below furthers Microsoft's goal of having a strong presence in the mobile phone arena.

Action Engine and Microsoft Bring Breakthrough Mobile Software to the Enterprise Market

REDMOND, Wash. and NEW ORLEANS - March 14, 2005 - Shattering the mobile usability barrier, Action Engine Corporation, the mobile application platform leader, today announced it will offer its award-winning Action Engine Mobile Application Platform software to the enterprise market through a collaboration with Microsoft Corporation. The solution will allow enterprises, such as universities, medical facilities and government agencies to offer an interconnected set of applications, running on Windows Mobile-based devices, to deliver customized content and information to students and employees who are on-the-go.

The solution will allow enterprises to create customized mobile applications to connect wireless device owners with important company or school information, such as employee and student directories, campus maps and information contained within Microsoft Sharepoint, Web portal or SQL CRM data stores. The customized application packs can also include the types of information-based applications that Action Engine has become known for, such as news, driving directions and restaurant finders. All information accessed by the applications can be updated seamlessly over-the-air to the end user. The solution will allow any enterprise to bring the breadth of information they have hidden in legacy, back-end databases to wireless devices in the field.

"The Action Engine Mobile Application Platform provides a unique environment for launching enterprise applications," said Bill Hagen, solutions specialist at Microsoft Corporation. "Action Engine has made the experience of accessing data and information on your phone fun, fast, and easy-to-use."

The solution was made possible through Action Engine's development of an interface to access the Microsoft BizTalk Server communications hub. This integration to the hub synchronizes, aggregates and accelerates data from the enterprise's back-end data stores to the mobile handsets. The solution incorporates the Microsoft BizTalk Server, Microsoft SharePoint Technology, SQL databases and the Action Engine Synchronization Engine. Using the Microsoft and Action Engine solution, customers can input data into any SharePoint or ODBC- compliant data store and present it to any wireless device application built using the Action Engine Mobile Application Platform.

The education sector is the first enterprise market being addressed by this joint solution. It is available for universities and schools to purchase today. Please contact Bill Hagen, [email protected], for more information or visit the Action Engine Booth #5714 at CTIA Wireless 2005 for a demonstration.
