8x8, Inc.(Packet8) and Uniden America Corporation, today introduced a fully integrated, service-ready whole house VoIP phone system. The Packet8-enabled UIP1868 is a 5.8GHz digital expandable corded/cordless phone with built-in VoIP technology. The UIP1868 is expandable with up to ten handsets, deploying VoIP capability to each handset using a single broadband Internet connection. No more daisy-chaining multiple duplexors on the ATA! (you could of course wire the ATA to your house wiring instead though)
Incorporating Centillium Communications' Voice Services Platform (VSP) and 8x8's Internet telephony software, the UIP1868 offers plug-and-play access to Packet8's feature-rich broadband telephone service. "With Uniden's expertise in the consumer electronics industry and 8x8's strength in voice and video communications technology, we are offering one of the most advanced telecommunications packages for future VoIP subscribers," said 8x8 President Barry Andrews. "Consumers making the transition to VoIP phone service can feel confident that with the Uniden/Packet8 option, they will receive one of the industry's most reliable and sophisticated Internet telephone solutions." Uniden's UIP1868 supports one telephone and one fax line and is compatible with Uniden's TCX800, TCX400, TCX440, CLX500 and ELT560 flip-design phone accessory cordless handsets.
The unit also offers features such as call waiting, caller ID, handset speakerphone, four-way conferencing, DirectLink(TM) two-way radio capability and a do not disturb setting. "Uniden is proud to partner with 8x8 to deliver a complete, cost-effective VoIP solution to consumers," said Brett Morrison, national sales manager in charge of IP products and business communications at Uniden America. "The high-quality broadband phone service offered by 8x8 in conjunction with Uniden's reliable hardware product truly provides a complete top of the line VoIP system for every consumer."
The Uniden UIP1868 incorporates Centillium Communications' (VSP), an integrated turnkey platform with exceptional performance, Quality-of-Service (QoS) and security features for the development and deployment of carrier-grade VoIP products. Uniden and Centillium formed a strategic relationship in 2004 to facilitate the development and retail delivery of consumer and small-office/home-office (SOHO) VoIP products.
