FREETALK Everyman HD Webcam for Skype Available

The FREETALK Everyman HD Webcam (TALK-7140), is available for pre-orders in the Skype Shop, however, I am told that starting tomorrow they will be fully available for purchase. It features a low $49 price, and it sports resolutions up to 1280 x 720 (22.5fps), as well as smaller resolutions like 640x480 (30fps), 320x240 and 160x120. It uses 15fps for low light conditions. Skype automatically uses lower resolutions in case of degraded network or when low-performance hardware is used on either end of the video call. As of now, the Everyman HD webcam is the only webcam that will work with those new HDTVs with Skype embedded.

Product specifications include:
  • High performance optical lens
  • 24-bit true color depth
  • Auto Exposure and Auto White Balance
  • Auto Focus capability
  • Supports HD video encoding at resolutions up to 1280x720 at up to 22 frames per second
  • Skype Certified™ High Definition Webcam
  • Universal clip for attaching to a wide variety of displays and monitors
To get HD send/receive quality on your FREETALK HD Everyman Webcam you'll need Skype 4.2 for Windows and above, a PC with a 1.8 GHz dual-core processor or faster and a high-speed broadband connection of at least 1 Mbps symmetrical bandwidth. The H.264 hardware encoding on the webcam is nice since it offloads the processing from the CPU.
