VoIP is dead? We think not because it plays an integral part in effective unified communications, Internet of things and more. Plus, "VoIP" is a hit on the Kickstarter "
How to Start and Run VoIP Business" book publishing campaign. The project has already doubled its financial goal with one week to go. What do I need to start VoIP business? How do I find a VoIP provider? How do I find DID numbers? These are questions Vilius Stanislovaitis asked himself. The search and answers led him to write a white paper specifically targeted to those who wanted to start a calling card business. Then more questions followed, so he wrote the book and is using Kickstarter to get the book published.
In the Kickstarter campaign, Vilius Stanislovaitis says, "Hi, VoIP startups and business owners. Studying VoIP business is like a puzzle where you need to connect different pieces together. First, evaluate telecom regulation in your country. Second, compare which [VoIP] service has the highest potential in your market. Third, compare different VoIP platforms to choose which one is the right one for you. On top of that, you need different skill sets in each of those areas, technical and commercial. And it's tough, especially for the person who is just starting the first steps in VoIP business.

"What do we normally do when we don't know something? We research. But believe me, even if you search the Internet, you will not an easy-to-use and informative guide that will lead you through this process step-by-step.
"So, five years ago, I began writing this book. It is based on the questions from VoIP startups and experienced, fast-growing VoIP companies. The book is written in a very simple non-technical language, so it will be easy for most readers to follow. Now, I have this book as a manuscript. My goal is to make it into reality.
"I need your support to do the professional editing, design, layout, and to bring the first copies of the book that I could send to you, so I ask you to be a part of this book and back this project on Kickstarter. Thanks."
Vilius Stanislovaitis is the author of the book "How to start and run VoIP Business" and is the chief sales officer at
Kolmisoft, the company that creates class 4 and 5 softswitches to manage VoIP business easily.
In a
DIDX VoIP Startup audio podcast, he and Suzanne Bowen (VP of DIDX.net) discuss how to have
success with Kickstarter, whether or not VoIP is dead, what not to do in VoIP business startup, the Guy Kawasaki book Ape's effective guide to book publication and Vilius's invitation to listeners to contact him on Twitter, LinkedIn, or Skype with any questions. The DIDX team can vouch for the fact Vilius is very fast and helpful in response!
Vilius says that, first, VoIP startups do not spend enough time on revenue-generating activities. They place all the emphasis on the technology instead. They create the solution and then wait for customers...and wait...and wait.
The second most common mistake of VoIP startups is not paying attention to MVP, minimally viable product.
Vilius says that Kickstarter has helped him to see if his book idea is

relevant to even those who have not read it yet. His Kickstarter strategy includes preparation at least a couple of months in advance, rolling out your emails of support and following up immediately to any replies. He also had accumulated more than 10,000 contacts with interest in VoIP business over time with his company. Many of them are his backers and supporters. His only marketing efforts, he says are using email, Skype and posts in LinkedIn and Twitter to share the Kickstarter campaign for "How to Start and Run VoIP Business."
During the recording of the audio podcast interview with Vilius Stanislovaitis his "How to Start and Run VoIP Business" Kickstarter campaign increased its backing from 129 to 137 backers with a ttal so far of $6,565 in funding. An Italian contributor chose one of the most interesting pledge levels at about $1098 USD with a reward of an exclusive one day tour of Lithuania including dinner with Vilius plus a signed copy of the book, and PDF copy! Sounds fun.
