FCC Investigating Second Life? Gimme A Break
Multiple sources have correctly reported that the U.S. Federal Bureau of Investigation is looking into whether the Linden Dollar-fueled, virtual online casinos operated by some Second Life members run afoul of some U.S. laws against online gambling.
True that Second Life developer Linden Labs actually invited the FBI to perform these checks. But still. I mean, give me a break.
I love second life, but the last time I checked, Linden dollars (which fuel the economic engines of the Second Life world) are not real dollars. Once you get out behind the glass of your PC and out to the real, carbon-based world where we live, you can't really buy anything with Linden dollars.
So at least the way I see it, prosecuting Second Life for running an "online casino" would be similar to prosecuting Grand Theft Auto players for grand theft.
