With Bush approval-Lucent-Alcatel merger passes last regulatory hurdle

President Bush has given his Presidential approval for the $11.8 billion acquisition of Lucent Technologies by Alcatel of France. T

In agreeing with the U.S. Committee on Foreign Investment, Bush signed on to the concept that the merger of the two telecom companies does not present any national security concerns.

With the Presidential approval, the last regulatory hurdle to this merger has bee removed.

When the marger is finally consummated- within weeks, the combined Paris-based company will have around $25 billion in sales as well as an 18 percent share of the international telecom equipment market.
