KBRO Technology Trends 2010 Conference - New York City

We will be hosting our first annual Technology Trends conference on January 12th at the InterContinental Hotel in NYC. The conference will consist of nine thematic panels that our analysts have come up with that we believe represent key trends that will be of interest in 2010. KDDI, the major Japanese carrier, has announced that it will cooperate with Google in the laying of a new submarine cable from Japan to Singapore. Known as the Southeast Asia Japan (SJC) cable system, it will cost $400MM and initially carry 17 Tbps.

The other carriers already involved in the project include Globe Telecom (Philippines), Network i2i (a 100% subsidiary of Bharti Airtel, India), Reliance Globalcom (through FLAG Pacific Limited, Bermuda), and Telemedia Pacific Inc (Hong Kong/Indonesia)

KDDI is also the owner of the famous Telehouse Europe. They certainly have some impressive global communications assets.
In recent news Pacnet has announced its plan to build a submarine cable linking India with Singapore and Malaysia. The initial design capacity is 6-8 Tbps with an initial landing point in Chennai, India and the capability for additiional landings in the future. The WAC is designed to be interconnected with the existing EAC-C2C cable. 

The amount of investment in this region is quite impressive. Obviously a good deal of this is coming from the need to build further redundancy in to the existing systems throughout the region as a result of the December 2006 Hengchun earthquake and other noteable cuts that have occured globally.

Whatever the motivation, there is one thing that is certain - this region will see great benefits from the investments being made in the increased ability to communicate at higher speeds and throughput levels.
