TADHack: Adding the Human Element to Communications

A few weeks ago, I attended a new developer show in Madrid called TADHack. It’s a smaller event and very different from the average conference. As soon as I walked into the venue, I noticed this weird green hue, kind of like I was in the Wizard of Oz. It had the feel of a nightclub, which was fitting since the developers were hacking late into the night.

TADHack is geared toward communications and voice developers, particularly over-the-top (OTT) communications app developers. Coding and creating apps using various developer toolkits is a key part of the show. I’m not sure what TADHack’s official mission statement is, but if I had to guess, it would be something along the lines of: “Making communications easier using technology” or “Breaking down barriers to communications applications.”

There were some good keynotes to this effect; many speakers explained how the value of communication—developing trust, conveying meaning, etc.—is often lost in a world where people type instead of talk. Considering the importance that Web apps play in the role of human communications today, we can expect more integration of voice and video with Web apps going forward.

These were very compelling, strong positioning statements about the role of voice and video in future communications. The communications applications world is vibrant and thriving; to add a real human element to future communications, we will need to think a little bit differently.

TADHack is about making that happen; it’s a different kind of show and an important kind of show. Let’s hope the green hue expands. To see some of it on video, click here.  You may even catch a glimpse of yours truly.

TADHack is one of many events that Dialogic attended this summer. Right now, our team is in Amsterdam at the LTE World Summit. Be sure to follow us on Twitter @Dialogic, where we’ll be sharing insights from the event.
