KDDI Joins the Southeast Asia Japan Cable System

KDDI, the major Japanese carrier, has announced that it will cooperate with Google in the laying of a new submarine cable from Japan to Singapore. Known as the Southeast Asia Japan (SJC) cable system, it will cost $400MM and initially carry 17 Tbps.

The other carriers already involved in the project include Globe Telecom (Philippines), Network i2i (a 100% subsidiary of Bharti Airtel, India), Reliance Globalcom (through FLAG Pacific Limited, Bermuda), and Telemedia Pacific Inc (Hong Kong/Indonesia)

KDDI is also the owner of the famous Telehouse Europe. They certainly have some impressive global communications assets.
