Pacnet To Build West Asia Crossing Subsea Cable

In recent news Pacnet has announced its plan to build a submarine cable linking India with Singapore and Malaysia. The initial design capacity is 6-8 Tbps with an initial landing point in Chennai, India and the capability for additiional landings in the future. The WAC is designed to be interconnected with the existing EAC-C2C cable.

The amount of investment in this region is quite impressive. Obviously a good deal of this is coming from the need to build further redundancy in to the existing systems throughout the region as a result of the December 2006 Hengchun earthquake and other noteable cuts that have occured globally.

Whatever the motivation, there is one thing that is certain - this region will see great benefits from the investments being made in the increased ability to communicate at higher speeds and throughput levels.
