Sales is Transitioning, Are Salespeople?

July 17, 2015

Insurance companies had to learn how to sell in today's marketplace, too. (See GapingVoid here.) It is the age of the smarter conversation.

Sales has to be about the business and its goals and outcomes. Otherwise sales cycles will increase and transition to IP and Cloud will stall.

Are You Frustrated With MPLS?

June 17, 2015

When I read press releases like this I laugh: "Despite the mounting frustration with MPLS connectivity costs and inflexibility, many customers still do not believe the Internet can provide the security and performance needed for today's business-critical traffic." MPLS is inflexible? It isn't inflexible; it is just complex.

Over the last seven years, I have watched many network admins try to wrestle with MPLS. Virtual pathways on a private network have been around since the days of frame relay.

I Just Don't See Nokia Pulling This Off

April 15, 2015

Nokia is buying Lucent for $16.5 billion. Rajeev Suri, current Nokia president and CEO, says, ""Together, Alcatel-Lucent and Nokia intend to lead in next-generation network technology and services, with the scope to create seamless connectivity for people and things wherever they are. Our innovation capability will be extraordinary, bringing together the R&D engine of Nokia with that of Alcatel-Lucent and its iconic Bell Labs. We will continue to combine this strength with the highly efficient, lean operations needed to compete on a global scale." What R&D engine? VDSL2?

Tidbits and Interesting Things Part 140

March 25, 2015

Some interesting services around the sector.

ADTRAN has field services that ITSP's can hire to perform site surveys and install Hosted VoIP deployments. (No idea about cabling, but that seems to be an issue for national providers. Local or regional providers tend to offer cabling for a price.)

The Whirl Factor

July 22, 2014

There was a good blog post on the TDCloud blog titled, "What's Your "Whirl Factor?" It was a good read.

"If the industry as a whole knew how awesome your product was--if they really understood all the differentiating features and the benefits of using it--would they still get behind it? Would sales people actively sell it? Would customers be lining up to buy it?"

Lots Going On

December 19, 2013

Apparently, all will be better when we switch from QAM to WAM

DISH hasn't given up on wireless. It has done terrestrial LTE trials with nTelos. DISH is still looking to buy LightSquared or T-Mobile.
